Montoya mixes it up

Montoya mixes it up a little bit with another driver. It appears someone nudged Montoya and Montoya bumped another car and before you knew it the other driver was blaming Montoya and pushing him around the race track, Montoya held his ground and did some pushing back.

I would expect no less,... from J. P. MONTOYA.
SO... how did he finish?

We all, (including Colombianas/os) can get distracted in life,...and, 'continue the fight'... because it is a part of (their) vernacular....and WE FORGET ABOUT .... how we finish. I know, I know... 'it's the journey; not the detination' and all that sh*t.... But, when the whole world is watching.... 'How did ya finish'?

Right, Desi? To Finnish is muy importante ;)

I dont know how he finished but i think the situation set both of them back, the other guy was Kevin something?
Keven claims that Montoya is always bumping others and plays dirty and he is fed up with it.
In this situation it really wasnt Montayas fault and he tried to explain to Kevin that he didnt cause the wreak.

I really admire Montoya, I have seen so many races when he has had to put up with unfair situations and he keeps his cool so well, but he is a real tiger a go getter and I cannot imagine anyone pushing him around.....I like the way he takes risks and think he is an excellente racer.

La Mono has it correct, Montoya is a risk taker but some of the other drivers consider him as to agressive so its gotton to the point where they blame him for every accident that happens.
It is evident that none of these drivers have ever riden in a taxi in Cali Colombia.

Hey Scotty, call me Mona please!

Sometimes he has been doing really well and then his car goes caput or else he goes into the pit and the team takes too long or something like that, I don't watch his races any more they are too frustrating, I hate it when those kind of things happen to him......but he is one cool headed person who is a real threat to the other's and he doesn't back down at all.

That's funny, scotty. I agree; My novia and I rode with a taxi driver (in his prime!) from Pasto, up the Carretera, to Cali... all through the night, jusssssssssssss in de nick of time, to catch my plane... I'M SURE MONTOYA COULD LEARN A THING OR TWO FROM THIS GUY!!! Maybe that's where montoya got his training... night, dark... hairpin turns,... passing others, in the oncoming lane,.. (Mario!) ( the swerve of the curve!!! .. now, I know where you got that phrase!).....going to the right in the passing lane, without warning.... OMgod...

Mona you are exactly right. Montoya is an excellent driver, very competitive and not afraid to take some chances, but you are right there always seems to be something that screws up his game, like you said a slow pit crew which somebody should do some thing about. Also i truely think some of the other drivers may be a little jealous of him because he is willing to take chances to win.
You are also right he is very cool headed, even when this othert driver Kevin was pushing him and grabing his helmet Montoya was actually pretty cool about it, i think any other person would have started swinging. Personally I think Kevin made a fool of himself , very inmature, Montoya was the better man keeping his cool .

Yeah I remember when he crashed once, he was in the lead doing so well against ese picado de Schumacher, he is so stuck up, anyway he crashed and his vehicle as in flames, he must have been sooooo angry, he just got out and walked away, now that's what I call a cool headed person.

You are so right! They envy him as he is not afraid of anyone, the way he carries himself and speaks is so self assured as he knows he has the abilty to give any of them a run for their money, do you think it's due to the fact he is colombian too? It might be....

scotty says on Aug 13, 2007, 00:53:

Well he is amazingly cool headed, there are many ocassions where he could had justifiably lost his cool but he didnt and today was one of those times.
I mean Kevin was pushing him and grabing his head gear and Montoya was cool he was just explaining to the guy hey man it wasnt my fault someone hit me, but i did notice that Montoya gave the guy a couple of little nudges to let him know he wasnt going to take much more of his crap.
I think it could be the fact that he is Colombian and does not fly off the handle so quickly as an american man would.
Im sure after the other guy sees the tapes he will see that Montoya wasnt at fault and he will feel like an idiot for blaming him.

Yeah I hope so, Montoya seems to know how to channel his energy into an aggressive driving style, even so his attitude is unapolagetic and I think it's that combination of being cool headed but not willing to take crap that makes him so great.

As he is representing Colombia I am glad that he behaves like that, he can't just give in to his anger at any time as he is representing his country and he knows the amount of stick he would get for that....I hope that Kevin or whoever is realizes it wasn't his fault and kicks himself for being such an ass.....how dare he touch mi Montoyita!

well if nothing else that Kevin dude owes Montoya an appology. Montoya is a champion and a cool headed person a good representative for Colombia.

I remember once when i was in Cali i got in this taxi and this guy was flying like a bat out of hell, swinging around those corners and really hauling ass. I asked him if his name was Montoya, he got a big laugh out of that.

I'll tell Colombians can drive, i am serious, I am very impressed the way Colombians can handle a car or moto. They zip around corners and can stop on a dime. I hate to admit it but Am,ericans are terrible drivers, they speed when they should slow and drive slow when they should be speeding. I see 3 or 4 wreaks everytime i go out on the street its crazy. But when i Cali i rarely see an accident and everywone is just flying down the streets.

You mentioned something about a conspiracy. Well i wasnt going to say anything but Mona you may have a point there. The racing in this country is and has always been run by a "good ol boys group" and im not so sure they appreciate this Colombian dude showing up on the track and out racing them. Who knows there could be some sort of consiracy going on to make sure this Colombian boy doesnt get to cocky, they may be trying to knock him down a notch or two, know what i mean?

Theres alot of dirty behind the scene things that happen in professional sports from illegal drugs to mafia paid off referees to what ever. Who knows maybe something is happening in the racing world against Montoya?

We have NASCAR HOTPASS at the sports bar in Medellin and because it was a road course, they had Montoya as one of the chosen drivers. He was going to have a top 5 and maybe even top 3 finish as he was always gaining fast throughout the race, even when he lost spots to pitting he was always quickly climbing back. Truex jr got into his rear and made him go wide into Harvick. Harvick got out first and jawed at Montoya and Montoya grabbed Harvick“s helmet and they shoved a little. Probably they were both frustrated as they both ran great and with the race winding down. The culrpit was Truex. He wrecked Montoya causing Montoya to wreck Harvick. With the Hotpass you can hear the radio transmission between drivers and crew. It was great hearing the crew yelling at Montoya, GET BACK IN THE CAR!!!!

spigrimace says on Aug 13, 2007, 04:59:

by the way he was 6th when he wrecked, the wreck happened on the speeding up on a green flag after a caution and had been as high as 4th. He did get back out on the course just to get some points but something went wrong and he didnt finish the race. The frustration also probably lent his hand that that was probably his last chance of thinking of making the chase and the wreck took any chance of that away.

I've been following Juan Pablo's career since he started in Indycars. He can get a little, ummm, aggressive sometimes- but I LOVE to watch him drive- the man's got balls!

I just wish he was still racing in open wheels- even growing up in North Carolina, that Nascar roundy-round crap bores me spitless. Most of those guys seem to have to learn what a right turn is all over again, at the few road courses they drive.

I look for JP to win the cup within a couple years....

ColombianoGringo says on Aug 13, 2007, 11:23:

Let me first say that I am always proud when fellow Colombians excel in sports or any other notable endeavor.

Montoya is definitely a talented driver. However, he got his ass handed to him in F1 and he went running to NASCAR with his tail between his legs.

He didn't have a choice since no good team in F1 would have anything to do with him. By all accounts, he was a total prick to everyone he worked with. Now I am sure that someone will say that he got picked on for being Latin American. However, there have been tons of drivers from South America and they never provoked the ire of the F1 the way he did.

I think the best example I saw of this was a video were he and his wife were walking around at a race. They were walking past the Ferrari motorhome where a huge crowd was gathered along with several cameramen. As one cameraman was taping Michael Schumacher and Jean Todt and could not see behind him. Montoya was not paying attention and HE bumped into the camera with his head. He immediately started yelling and cursing the cameraman even though Montoya was clearly at fault. He went on cursing as his poor, embarrassed wife begged him to calm down.

This was well in line with his typical habit of blaming everyone and everything every time something went wrong in a race. As they say in Colombia "Desde que inventaron las excusas, nadie ha quedado mal" or in English "Ever since excuses were invented, nobody looks bad". In general, he was a terrible "ambassador" for Colombia.

As I said, he is a very good driver(although not as great as he seems to think) and he has done some great philanthropic work. I hope he does well in NASCAR, but he needs to change that attitude wears his welcome out wherever he goes.

JPM drives somewhat aggressively and really has no ties to NASCAR, other than his team mates. In fact, Kevin Harvick was one of the ones that helped him when he first started riving stock cars. So, Juan Pablo doesn't feel the need to be polite, to put it mildly. Several guys have been racing together for years from dirt tracks to Talladega. So, they tend to be less aggressive. Which is why I'm glad he's racing in Nascar. He livens things up a bit. He doesn't give a crap. And I like that.

Although I will say JPM did 'nudge' Jimmie Johnson out of the way. That alone made my aunt fall in love with him =)

slguy says on Aug 13, 2007, 13:09:

Yep. He's got tons of attitude. I'm not defending the man's off-track behavior. Only his driving skills and style.

The first time I saw him cut across the dirt in the carosel a Leguna Seca to win a race, I admired his balls. He may be a pain in the ass- but the man drives fearlessly.
