I just got the 512 kbps cable modem service from the Pereira telephone company. I assumed this was the best they have. It costs appx 300,000 per month (6 times more per kb then what i was paying in the States), and its a 1 year contract. They came out and ran a cable line from the telephone poll into my bedroom and hooked up the cable modem. Without much to do, it was connected and working.

Later, I tried test it out by playing one of my online PC games. I got tons of sporadic lag. It was really bad.

I thought they were going to install a dsl modem but they did the cable modem instead. I'm going to see if they can switch me to dsl and maybe that will be more stable. If that fails. I may try satellite with Axesat. If that fails ...

ETB, DSL I have ETB in Bogotá, 200k down and 100k up - not very fast but good enough for surfing, the odd download and voip. The pings to Europe are quite alright too: 200ms.

It costs 28.000$ the first 4 months and 69.000$ the remaining 8. So all in all it costs about 55.000$ per month. But at least it's unlimited.

In Germany I can get 6Mbit down 500k up DSL unlimited for this kind of money though, so I suffer from this 200k connection :´-(.
