Monopoly

I've just finished reading Do Not Pass Go by Tim Moore which is an eccentric travelogue of the stories and histories through the streets of London as dictated by the boardgame Monopoly (Great read I have to say)

But anyway, the point of this post was that I wondered, also being a fan of the game as Mr. Moore evidentally is, whether a Colombian version of Monopoly exists?

none that i know of.....the closest you would get is a board game called "Tio Rico" which I have very fond memories of.

I actually stand corrected.....I came across this whilst doing a bit of research........seems there is a Colombian version after all.

It sure does exist, I have one.

It comes in a much smaller box, and mine is put out by Industrias Ronda under License from Parker Brothers.

The board is flimsy compared to other sets and is folded into quarters rather than in half. The dice are cheap looking as are the pieces which are all the same shape pieces of different colours. Oddly enough the houses are red and the hotels are green. I was hoping that the streets would be perhaps streets from Bogotá, but alas they are the same old ones from the US.

I might be biased but of all the sets I have the English one from Waddington's is the best quality and at least they use London streets.

Quindoman, that one in the link is cool. I have to get one of those. So much nicer than the one I have from Colombia.

i'd love to get one of those boards as well Kernow....didn't know there was a Colombian version but I'm not at all surprised...big Monopoly fan as well...one of the first chrissie presents I got, nothing like sticking a couple of hotels in Park Lane and Mayfair and gloating while they give you their money and their deeds and go off to make the tea :p

Thanks for the link Quindioman, that's great.

It's funny how families invented these little rules to stop the gloating from anyone whose just bankrupt the rest of the players. In my house it was the winner who made the tea, but not before they had the sole task of putting the board and pieces back in the box.

I've got the Star Wars special edition and it's got a cool layout and instead of Hotels you stick the Millennium Falcon on your tile, but it's not the same advancing to Cloud City than it is to advance to Mayfair.
