Mom and dad stores cheaper than big supermarkets. La tienda de la esquina

I do like to buy in the small stores, the one in the corner or Plazas de Mercado, as well in family restaurants. Althought once I drove a long way to El Exito de la 170.

That's great. I hope Colombia never starts to subsidize factory farms, so that the local mom & pop places can stay competitive with the mass-scale supermercados.

sometimes exito is a little cheaper than my nieghborhood tienda. Also depends on the store. Some owners raise prices.

2-liter diet coke is 3500 pesos at my nieghborhood store. Sometimes I see it at exio for 2800.

Regardless of the place you buy, what is the word that sells more?

DISCOUNT.

But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am

How are Colsubsidio and CAFAM different? I've never understood CAFAM. Is it a cooperative? Does it receive government money?

I remember hearing that Wal Mart was supposed to hit Medellin in a big way last year,& then never heard anything about it again.... I remember people who worked for Exito telling me that they were getting ready for this... Did this indeed happen?

This story is so true. My sister in law is doing the accounting for this small grocery store everybody goes to in Tuluá because it's less expensive and she told us their monthly total is $3.500 million pesos. I said "oh that's nice, about... $200kUSD" My husband stared at me in shock and said "nooooooo... that's $2mil USD" Say whaaaah?

Yeah, I'm not good at math.

There is always a cheaper place than exito to get your stuff. The convieience of everything in one place is the attraction. It's quite a contrast to north america where wal mart is almost aways the cheapest. Used to shop there - never again. I have to do somehting to try to change the corporate control in the world but I'll never get involved in politics down here. I wouldn't live long.
