MOBILE BROADBAND IN COLOMBIA???

In my country (UK), and probably USA have 'Mobile Broadband' which does not need internet connection plugs into the wall.

Today I asked them if I could use one of the Mobile Broadband Flash Drive to use in Colombia. They said it will be cheaper if I could pay 'Pay As You Go' in Colombia.

The question is does Colombia have similar services? If so, how much and how long for and where to buy it from? (Going to Cali)

Make sure the USB device is not locked to your internet provider in the UK. If it's locked to them, your new Colombian SIM won't work in the device.

There is a bit of configuration to be done in the device itself to make it communicate on the new network. You will probably have some runaround to change your settings to work with Comcel, for example, then change back to work with the UK provider.

You can get around this by buying a new USB device in Colombia (150k pesos and up).

The problem is the speeds. None of the moble networks here I have seen provide more than 1.2 megabits here in Colombia (and that is in large cities). With a wired connection its possible to get right at 8 megabits in many places (wifi over a Telmex connection) or 16 megabits in Bogota using Telefonica.

I was checking Movistar today as I will be in Cali later this week. It looks like they have mobile broadband device for $62.990/month prepaid. I am not positive of the bandwidth rate.
