I found out i apparently need to have a letter from my mom and dad notorized in english and spanish and authenticated, im traveling alone to meet a friend, does anyone else know anything about this, and do i have to make an appointment with the embassy or do i just show up i live like 2 hours away? or i saw on somethings that the age that you need this stuff changes by country(saw this on the consulate website) but it didnt list the ags it said arg. was 14 and under and brasil was 16 and under, im 15, so im lost and i only have a few days!

Hold on are you a colombian citizen? I've never heard of any rule like this...I've been flying alone to Colombia since I was 12..same as my sister. I know you need your father's permission if you're Colombian but not for foreign nationals.

This is what was on the paper i recieved Departure Requirements for Minors: Minors (under 18) traveling alone, with one parent or with a third party must present written authorization from the absent parent(s) or legal guardian, specifically granting permission to travel alone, with one parent or with a third party. Minors must also present a copy of their birth certificate. If documents are prepared in the United States, the authorization and the birth certificate must be translated into Spanish, notarized, and authenticated by the Colombian embassy or a consulate within the U.S. If documents are prepared in Colombia, only notarization by a Colombian notary is required.

This applies to... Oh I know this law. It only applies to Colombian citizens...does not apply to you as an American.

May be none of my business, but I'd be careful with what you're doing. Your father can give your mother a very hard time if he finds out you took an unsupervised trip overseas. He can really give your mother a lot grief...legally. It looks and sounds totally inappropriate for someone your age and will play VERY bad in court.

Pepster I think you are mistaken, it's my understanding that all minors must have this authorization. Try calling DAS at El Dorado airport to confirm.

Untreated I'm not, my sister and mom are right next to me...there is no issue. If they are Colombian you must have your parents authorization. Like I said, I've traveled as a minor, as well as cousins and friends...as long as you're not COLOMBIAN. Trust me...I am not mistaken.

basically
if a minor is gonna travel with a COLOMBIAN passport, then they need the notarised permission from BOTH mother and father

However, if a minor is travelling with a British (or American) passport then you dont need this permission

hope that helps
