Simon-agreed. And remember when the Chinese come in and Flood Colombia's market(even moreso then what they are doing now) with cheap goods and Colombian factories close, where will the people work. Will the Chinese fork over Billions in Plan Colombia money? Colombia will get slaughtered on the currency exchange as Colombia's peso is truly floating whereas Chinas' is artifically pegged low. What happens then?

Chicken little sky is falling song and dance. Many Colombians can't afford to buy anything now,, so just how is maintaining high import penalties going to accomplish anything ?

The European Union was formed, among other reasons to allow free trade between it's member states,, kind of like the United States. So are they bent over with their heads in the sand over Foreign goods,, I don't think so.

It is probably frightening to some Europeans when they think about a North / South America trade Union,, and they for sure won't be expanding into Asia,, maybe Africa.. :>)

All countries would be members from Canada down to the tip of South America, one, big, unified trade group.

I'd suppose there would be folks bitch'n,, where's my job. Well,, shoot,, maybe we'd need a few shovels and someone to lean on them,, ? Humm,, Close to 7 billion folks in the world,, damn,, that's a lot of shovels.
