No surprise these fancy Miami restaurants are closing; Miami is the Poorest Large City in the USA as far as income per capita per city size(maybe since last rating it is #3 or 4) People want a K Mart priced meal not these $50 meals worth $6 and with lousy service at that!

Imagine the mortification of a waiter putting your country or race on his chit list. I usually tip, but I think that somehow I could find the strength to live with this shame. Maybe the service was bad, the food overpriced, the atmosphere lacklustre and pretentious? I do not personally think tips should be used to stop people paying a living wage.

Lobbies-Restaurant Owners Associations-Well paid Lobbyists lobby hard aginst paying Waiters a Min wage! If you are in the right restuarantwith good customers though, you make it up in tips! Besides, when waiters work on a tip basis, they have an incentive to serve the customer!! Why should a lousy waiter/waitress get the same pay as a good concerned waiter?

I don't advocate banning tips. A waiter or waitress is being paid to do a job. They should be paid fairly if they do that job. Good concerned waiters should get tips in addition to a living wage and this can act as an additional incentive. Lousy waiters should do their job or do another job. Average waiters should have the security of not having to depend on skinflints and know what they will be getting. I don't care for lobbyists. People should also not be obliged to tip for lousy service, poor food, crappy ambience, pretentious people...

Service sucks in Miami anyways many waiters or waitresses don't deserve a tip in Miami.. Other US Cities the food and service is much better but thats what you get in a Tourist town like MIA>...

Panthdave, Not to mention waiters in bars on South Beach have "Sticky-Fingers"--Mangos is a prime example, give a waitress a $20 Bill, she doesn't return and when questioned as to why, She told me, "Thought it was my Tip" Right, a Beer that cost $4, that took 10 minutes to get, was worth a $16 Tip???? The Waitresses aren't that pretty! LOL This actually happened to me a few years ago at Mangos on Ocean Drive in SB!

LOL, this is so true!!! I had to give my Colombian hubby a lesson on tipping when he came here. Before, when I went to visit him in Medellin, he would go crazy when I gave the lady who delivered our ten course breakfast to the hotel room and 10,000 tip. I mean 5 bucks to us isn't anything but to them it's a whole hell of a lot. Then he would talk about it to all of his family the whole trip and they would think I was crazy too. So when he finally got here he understood and when we went back together for the first time during Semana Santa, he became a good tipper......

Winners have simply formed the habit of doing things losers don't like to do.......
