MIA to CTG

How far in advance would I need to buy these tickets for July to ensure availability?

Price is an issue but not a determining factor, my issue right now is seeing how long I can wait before finding out there are no more tickets as i'm not 100% sure on my plans ;)

Since we're on the topic, I was looking into the Hilton (yes, I know it's expensive). What other hotels would you all recommend in that area that would be considered extremely secure, four-star-type resorts?

Don't know what your plans are but if you are traveling with a companion, you can stay at the all-inclusive Hotel Decameron Bocagrande for $124 per night for two.

PdA,

Well yes, with a companion. I'm trying to go all out on the accommodations so I want to make sure that I select a hotel that is fairly exclusive. I know the Hilton fits the bill but I really don't have any resources on the other hotels in the area.

Anything in the tourist zone is very secure. The Hotel Dann at the other end of Laguito from the Hilton is nice but maybe not a 4-star. The Hotel Caribe at the head of San Martin in Bocagrande is probably a 4-star. The Almirante a few blocks toward centro from the Caribe may also be a 4-star.

In centro you could try the Santa Teresa(4-star) or the Santa Clara. The Santa Clara is easily the best hotel in CTG.

If you want 4-star, I would avoid the Decameron.

Remember that you needn't spend a ton for safety.

Decameron looks nice, but I was shooting for something more along the lines of the executive suites at the Hilton.

I'm headed there for a couple nights in May. Not what I would really want, but the reality is that I don't plan to see too much of Cartagena during my stay. I only plan to come up for air two or three times per day.

Wish that would work for me. I will already be in Colombia for awhile before I head to Cartagena.

Deathnova I have stayed at the Hilton Cartagena twice in the past year and really enjoyed my stay there. If you walk out the front door and take a right for 10 yards you come to the Tropical lounge. It is built on a dock on the small lagoon. The food is good and prices very reasonable. I do see many of the Colombians taking young woman there for drinks.

I meant to say 100 yards as the lounge is not part of the Hilton property. Of course as usual expect to find high food prices in Hilton eateries

Actually the lounge is owned and operated by the Hilton.

The hilton is not hilton by american standards...but its ok for bocagrande. Almirante Estelar is nice as well and a little cheaper. Caribe has git some nice rooms, but rather 3 star all in all.

If you want a really really nice hotel go to Santa Clara in centro. It's definately the BEST. the atomsphere in the lounge and around the pool is unbeatable, especially in the evenings...
If you prefer a beach resort, Las Americas is a good address.
