mi mujer de barranquilla

2 topics........just came back from barranquilla 3 days ago....was very apprensensive based on what I read on this site...flew thru' miami from las bahamas........there and back....everything smooth, flights left on time.....no hassles....even taxis in barranquila were managed by sympathetic drivers......equivalent of $4.50 for 40 minute taxi ride......could not beat it.....so what is this talk about horror stories ...sorry not prejudice....but sometimes americans expect things in other countries to be like chicago, new york and miami...respect of others is mostly what will get u thru"

topic #2.....met this incredible woman.......she needs american visa although she will only spend 4 or 5 hours in miami before flying to the bahamas......what route do i go??? if I invite her, then ends up being major process with foreign affairs here with banking information and proof of every goddamn thing under the sun.........would it not be easier if I wired $2000 into her colombian bank account so she can apply on her own, as a tourist, thereby proving she has sufficient funds.....
I would really appreciate help and opinions on this one

Like most people, just looking for love

You see what you look for 1) I agree that because bad things can happen doesn't mean they will happen. At the same time because they might not happen doesn't mean you should be less cautious. Many "bad experiences" suffered by travelers have to do with unrealistic expectations instead. I'm glad you had a good time. Most do.

2) WRT a visa, I don't know what the visa requirements are for the Bahamas, but if your novia can go to the Bahamas without going through the U.S. that would eliminate a mountain of frustration. Unless she is well connected or over 40, her chances of getting a tourist visa to the U.S. are virtually nil. (i.e. don't waste your money).

In reality, for most international relationships it's far easier for the foreigner to go to Colombia than it is for the Colombian to travel outside of Latin America.

In any case, love conquers all. Good luck!

A fool and his money? 1)Next time I am getting mugged, I will try telling the mugger that I respect him. I am sure that will solve everything.
2)Red Flags are going up here for me. You just met a woman in Baranquilia and are willing to wire $2000 into her account?

Be carefull bro. And, I agree with Crazy4Cali, It is way easier to just hang with her in Colombia. That behooves you as well, then you can keep your Bahamas girlfriend, Miami girlfriend, and Colombia girlfriend seperate!

Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!

Uppsss I agree with bartolo_colon, why dont you go there a couple of times, get to know the area really well, get to know your MUJER really well..than wasting your money at once....It is not easy to travel out of Colombia....If i ware single i would like to get a man like your jejejejejejjejje $2000 after a week!!!!!! anyway Good Luck!!!

Ok I don't agree with some of the posters. $2000 is not that much (I spent that for her trip to Bogota for the visa alone - and then more for her ticket to USA!) If you are hard up for cash or don't make the money then its different - but I spend $2,000 for one week's trip to Vegas or Costa Rica or Anahiem, California and usually more (because I take longer trips!) In the scheme of things for me $2,000 is not that big a deal to give to her - if the relationship works out you will be spending at least 1o to 20 times that easily! Many of us have done that with just dating and semi-relationships - so go for it. And Best of Luck

It's not just the money Wiring $2,000 for the purpose of showing she has money in the bank is probably not going to work. The Consul will ask (assuming she get's that far in the interview), "how did you save $2,000 when you only make $800/month (or whatever) at your job?" If she says, "My boyfriend sent it to me." Bzzzzt. Denied! because she just failed the "center of gravity" test.

Now, sending her money to get a ticket to Panama, or wherever you want to visit is different (and more likely to be successful). But that just brings me back to my original point: It's probably easier for you to visit her than vice versa. Whether that also keeps here from meeting your Miami girlfriend or your Bahaman girlfriend is a separate matter.

I agree with crazy but not the others saying its a ripoff! I agree that its easier for him to go to Colombia than for her to get a visa to USA (but I would say no harm done if she tries for the tourist visa - its like rolling the dice.) And even if $2000 may be a lot of money for some Colombians its not much for us! Heck if she has to travel anywhere its gonna cost a lot and you are going to support her with that (I wouldn't want my gf or fiancee or wife to travel by bus when I can easily afford a plane ticket for her!) Go for it - and if it doesn't work fly down to Colombia or Panama or whereever else you choose. Good Luck

Other places to go There is a list of about 20 something countries that Colombians can visit and DO NOT require a visa. I do not remember which countries are on the list, but I strongly recommend looking this info up as I seem to remember some cool places on there.
