While the security situation in Colombia continues to slowly improve (albeit unevely), Mexico increasingly looks like Colombia did during Pablo's heyday.

Mononoke28 says on Dec 10, 2008, 09:53: I think the title of the thread is wrong, you cannot compare apples with oranges. Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on Dec 10, 2008, 10:22: Getting a little off topic. I think that Mexico is much more dangerous for tourists. Colombia doesn't have many tourists and therefore there isn't an industry of crime against tourists. miamimike says on Dec 10, 2008, 11:22: Mononoke--Not so baffling if you look at the facts as they are today. Most of this trouble takes place along the border towns like Tijuana, Juarez. Get into the interior and not much of a problem. The Mexican border towns have never been such a great place to go-its been dangerous for decades only now with Colombian drugs being re-routed thru Mexico, its much more dangerous. Tell me the last time an American was sequestered in San Miguel de Allende, Guadalajara ect when they made an ATM withdrawal.. There is much more transparency in Mexico as an example if you want to get your FM3 Rentista Visa(retiree) a simple process. Its easy to sign up for the IMSS Mexico's national Healthcare costing $350 monthly. If you look the advantages you get with a resident Visa for a retiree, you cannot even compare the two for a Retiree(Col and Mexico) Bésame, bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche La última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte después Bésame, bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche La última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte de 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

miamimike says on Dec 10, 2008, 21:35: Yet no one here has come out and stated exactly where it was they mugged, sequestered and beat up when they were in Mexico. Where did you guys personally experience these problems? When? It sounds just like the stories I heard in 1993 when I first started planning my first trip to Colombia---Not a bit of difference. I went on my trip and had a great time and also I heard the same thing about mexico, payed NO attention to it and went and also had a very nice time. No Muggings, I wasn't sequestered, robbed at the ATM. I see more of that here in Miami, minus the sequestering. jay007 says on Dec 11, 2008, 03:43: its more dangerous lately cause mexicos new president is kickin A$$! the dope dealers are at war trying to cause as much havoc as they can so they will pull out the some 20,000 federal troops they have placed along the border towns to stop the police corruption and drug cartels...and it seems to be working..the public is sick of the blood shed, the president is already talking about pullin out...the same thing the terrorists are doing in iraq..you kill enough people and cause enough havoc then its just a matter of time before the powers that be call it off...better to have the stuff flow in then to have thousands of people dying and bombs going off at shoppin malls...these people are use to making money and will do anything to keep it flowing smoothly...let the addicts OD and let the dealers make there money so the rest of us can live in peace..
