Mexico Clobbers Brazil 2-0

While I am cautiously optimistic about Colombia beating Brazil Thursday, I must say that once again, Mexico has demonstrated that its respectable FIFA rankings make it a formidable team to be dealt with. Brazil, while making several strong runs to try and challenge an early Mexican lead, still was not able to move the ball past Mexico's newest Goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa. He was as impressive as any Goalkeeper I have seen of late. This victory comes on top of the fact that two of Mexico's top players are not participating....Borghetti, and Salcido.

Some of you can start the mantra of how weak CONCACAF is. Yes, I agree, it is weak. But Mexico and the US are only 2 teams in that league, and I will contend, that they can easily compete with the very best teams COMNEBOL has to offer. Mexico demonstrated as much today. Keep in mind that Mexico and the US are only participating be invitation.....not because the earned a spot through league competition. If they were not up to the challenge, they would never have been invited. Also, for the record, In the last 6 Copa America final rounds, Mexico has been to two of them and there have a lot of COMNEBOL teams that never cam close.

Lastly.........if it does come down to another round of Colombia and Mexico....I'll stick with Mexico. Not only because I like the team. They're just a better one. Hugo Sanchez will see to that.

In the opening remark I meant to say "cautiously optimistic about Colombia beating Paraguay and not Brazil........

I never ceased to be amazed, how a tiny country like Paraguay can compete. What's the population of Paraguay?

And, how is Colombia coming through this so far?

The beauty of soccer is that, on a good day, Timbuktu can beat Brazil. Whereas on a good day timbuktu cannot beat the U.S. basketball team, or the Russian baseball team cannot beat the yankees. I watched the game last night and in the last minute a mexican forward missed an unbelievable opportunity. The score could have been even more lopsided. The funny thing is, Brazil was obviously the better team!

Also, as Gomez says, the Mexican goalie had an AMAZING night.

I was waiting to see who, and how someone was going to put a "spin" on reality. Jaramillo......the prize goes to you.

So let me summarize your post.

Mexico was lucky in that they happened to have a good night:
My Response: FIFA still ranks Mexico in top 30.

The Mexican forward missed an unbelievable opportunity:
My response: Did you see that that the Brazilian player through him off balance and that while he was alone, one on one with the goaltender, the forward was NOT in a stable postion to take a clean shot. At the same time, when you are ahead by two goals, with less than 10 seconds to play, is it worth putting yourself in an unnatural position to score one more goal, while at the same time risk injury to yourself. I suggest you revisit the entire play and you will see that the forward barely was on stable ground after the defender tried to take him out of the play.

The Mexican Goalkeeper had an amazing night.
My Response: The Goalkeeper is an amazing player ....period. BTW, so is their other GK, Oswaldo Sanchez.

You think Brazil is the better team?
My Response: hmmm they sure have not demonstrated as such in the last year. Check their record. Also, if you will recall, they were knocked out of the World Cup early last year.

If Brasil had had Ronaldinho or Kaka they would have wiped the floor with Mexico.

And Gomez, quit propping up Mexico, they squeaked by those 'super powers' Guadelup and Cuba, lost to Honduras and then to the US. They're really mediocre!

That's looooooow.
Almost lower than New Orleans.
Low.

Juarez? Tijuana?
must be lots of crime, probably good for attorneys.
But, then they really don't enforce laws in the Latin American/South American countries anyway, now do they???
So low, there's not even work snakes.

To answer my own question for you, before you begin:
No.
I know someone in Colombia, who had thousands of dollars extorted electronically from a business bank account... and the people who did it and ADMITTED TO IT.... ARE STILL WALKING THE STREETS FOR FREE. No District Attorney action. AND THE GUILTY PARTY ADMITTED TO IT.
