MEXICO - MEXICANA REVIEWS...ANYONE?

I don't know anything about that airline or airport, but if you are just in Mexico City for a short layover, and departing again on the same plane, your bags wouldn't even be offloaded in Mexico City. They would just sit in the plane I imagine.

First of all Carlotica you should ask how long the layover will be, if the layover is short, meaning 1 hr or maybe 2, your bags will not be offloaded. If your passport is colombian you may requiere a visa, I don't know, Colombians need visa to visit Mexico.

2o. Usually, whenever buying your tickets the staff of the airline let you know about any visa or any other document you may need to enter the country. On the other hand if you already have a US visa this might be enough for mexican authorities.

3o. I have traveled with Mexicana from Mexico to bogota... it is not the best airline but fairly enough to have a pleasant flight.

I wish I go to Bogota.. They seem to have many more options than Medellin..

I cannot speak to the immigration ...customs issue in regards to who you are. That is an issue that is totally unrelated to the airlines, and what their performance is.

I have flow Mexicana several times from Chicago to various cities in Mexico---most commonly, Guadalajara Jalisco. Their service is excellent. .....far better than American's. I flew them even though I was in American's frequent flyer program (American Advantage). I have to think that you will not have any problems with Mexicana. Keep in mind, if you are flying from Mexico City, the availability of planes and timeliness of departure is much more likely with Mexicana than any other airlines because they have so many planes and flight crews. If you fly another airline, and the plane breaks down or something, you might have a more difficult time getting to your destination.....

Gozeman I did the same thing. I used American Frequent Flyer miles. By doing this it cost me 60,000 instead of the 70,000. I received good service as well.

Mexicana hub is in Mexico City. They also partner with American. I took a flight from LAX to Bogota with a 4 hour lay over in Mexico City. Really nice excutive club. One of the better ones I have been to. Again I flew business class. The airport is nice and I did not have to recheck my bags. Besides, we (Mexicans) like Colombia.

Check out Copa, Spirt, Avainca and Taca. Good Luck.

I have flown TACA since it is the cheapest from Mexico, layover in Costa Rica though. the layover is one hour from Mexico to Bogota and two from bogota to Mex. and TACA's time of arrival is at 1:30 pm and not 7:50 pm like Mexicana's wich will give you more time (few hours) to spend in beautiful Bogota.

I flew Mexicana from Mexico City to Bogota in April with no problems and excellent service. The airport is huge, but there seemed to be lots of airport staffers around to answer questions and point people in the right direction

Carolotica, just one more thing.... I think I've done a similar route before from California.... California, plane change in Mexico City, and then to Bogota... If this is the same route, just know that when you change planes in Mexico City, you are transported from the runway to the terminal on one of those "people carriers".... So, don't get freaked out when you're all in one tight spot together... But, other then that, you shouldn't have any issues.... Luggage and all that other stuff was taken to the other plane by the crew.... Well, that's the way it used to be... It's been a while since, I've done that route... Good Luck and have fun....

Msaucey I was not transported via a people mover. I took the LAX to Mexico City to Bogota. I did have to take a nice walk. This was around two to three years back, so you may be right.

Heads up, back in December 2005 my bags got delayed over four days. I beleive this was due to the extra baggage every one took during Christmas. Weight limts. I had to bitch at an American Sales office in Bogota to find out where my bags went. They made me pick up my own bag. I used American but I suspect Mexicana can end up doing it as well. Heads up and be prepared just in case.

Mexicana's not bad. Never had any problems, and good service. But I've never laid over at Mexico DF.

My best friend's former brother in law was(or is) a pilot for Mexicana. Like all my true Mexican friends he was a complete party fiend. I hope all their pilots are not all as crazy as he was.

This crazy bastard would actually buzz our condo building in Acapulco when we used to go there for the summer in high school. When he knew we were there, he would call our condo and let us know when he was going to do it. I actually witnessed it twice, but apparently, he did it several times.

I have booked numerous trips with hotwire, sidestep, expedia to name a few.
Going direct to airlines is expensive.
I just booked a 3 flight trip to Colombia during holiday time and basically got a flight from Cali to Cartagena for free.
Mexico is much cheaper to fly to though.

I just got back from Cancun (11/12/07, but was suppose to get back on 11/11/07) using Mexicana and I will never ever use this airline again! My mission now is to tell as many people as possible my bad experience with this airline.

I booked my flight with American Express Travel reward. I was unable to book a nonstop flight from LAX to Cancun due to the price ($1000). So, I decided to book a flight with 1 connecting flight. Since I had a 2 year old with me, I wanted the shortest amount of time in Mexico City. At the time, I did not know Mexicana Airline. I assumed it would be a good airline.

Flying to Cancun was fine. From LAX, we landed in Mexico City for 1 hour. We did our immigration paperwork and waited to board the plane to Cancun. Everything was great. We made it to Cancun on time.

Going home, the flight from Cancun to Mexico City was good. When it landed in Mexico City, we sat on the plane for 30 minutes. They did not let anyone out because a shuttle was coming to pick us up since the plane did not land at the terminal. When we were finally inside the airport, we had to walk across the way to connect to our next flight to LAX and go through baggage check point. By the time we got to the Gate 19A, we were 7 minutes late. Our connecting flight had just left. We were stranded.The next flight out was not until 8am. The Mexicana employee told us to go to "F2" to talk to their supervisor who will set us up with hotel and food to wait for the morning flight. We ran in circles trying to find "F2". It was like a scavenger hunt.

When we finally found "F2" and was able to talk to the supervisor, he said that they will not provide us with a hotel because it was our fault for booking the flights close together. First of all, I did not purposely book the flight close together. The American Express & Travelocity website picked the flights for me. How was I suppose to know that the stupid plane would not let us off the moment it landed. There were many other passengers who were in the same predicament as us. Some went to find hotels on their own. My family and I decided to just sleep at the airport until the next morning to catch another flight to LAX. It was not a fun experience. It ruined our entire trip!

Interestingly, our luggage did not get transported on the connecting flight that we missed. How would they know to just keep our baggage in Mexico City for us to pick it up? My husband thinks that they overbooked the flight and purposely wanted some people to miss their flight home.

The lesson I learned from this experience is 1) to book non-stop flight in foreign territory 2) Because Mexicana Airlines have the worst customer service ever, I will never use them, AGAIN!
