Melbourne to Bogota...Aussie help?

Hello,

I was just wondering for the Aussies out there what sort of prices you got for your flights and which way you went? I flew last year (August) through Chile (Melbourne-Sydney-Wellington-Santiago-Lima-Bogota) with a two day stopover in Santiago and I had a return ticket valid for a year. From what I can remember I think it cost me around $2900 Aus.

This time I have been quoted around $2300 to go through LA? I have been told that it is definitely going to be cheaper to go through the US. How about yourselves? What sort of prices and terms have you been given?

I am just starting to get quotes as I am not leaving till Jan.

Ta, Em :)

~13 weeks to go~

Australia to Colombia Hi!,
I always fly Sydney to LA - Miami - Cali ( but you can switch Cali for Bogota), this is good but ,I don't recommend coming back through Miami, as immigration is a big hassle at there,as they have no idea and are very rude,I think it is better coming from Bogota to Houston or somewhere else.
I think it would workout maybe a little cheaper going through the US as there are more flights and you only have to stay over one night,if you come back from Cali to Miami than LA and Australia, all 3 flights connect and you can be home in 1 day, this also gives you about 5 0r 5 hours to spare in LA,as all the flights to Australia leave around 10pm to midnight,if you miss the LA to Melbourne flight there is 3 flights to Sydney on saturdays.
Hope this helps

my take... I got one in May this year for $3,200 Sydney ,Auckland, L.A, Miami, Bogota, London, Prauge, Bangkok, Sydney as a one year around the world ticket.

We went to the US only because my boyfriends sister lives there, other wise we would have gotten a much cheeper ticket going through chilli. Like you have been offered.

Its a great deal $2,300.

Seems to vary I've been Syd-Auckland-Buenos Aries-Bogota (usually have to stay in BA for a couple of days) that's usually around $2,100

Also been Syd-Auck-Santiago-Bogota and that's usually $2,500

Depends when I book, but seems that sometimes Qantas is going to Argentina and sometimes it isn't. Makes no sense to me!

Anyway, the way the petrol prices are going you can bet on your ticket going up. Have a good time

I just brought a ticket for my man, Providencia island - San Andres - Bogota - Miami - LA - Sydney. Just the Miami to Sydney return was $1575 flying united, on the 7th Jan. I was so happy about that. The rest you can get on the net for $350US Miami to Bogota return.

Australia to Colombia tickets I've found a travel agent online ABS Travel, based in Miami.
They sell tickets from all over the US, Australia & Europe to Colombia (Latin America, etc.) I've bought some tickets for myself, and also for family, coming from Latin America to the US!

Just a satisfied customer, not associated with them.

Always check with different online sites, to make sure you get a good deal. Doesn't hurt.

Briz-La-Houston-Cali Hey,

I bought tickets for December for Brisbane-LA-Houston-Cali for just under$3,000 - I thought this was a pretty good deal. Cheaper than through South America. We don't have any overnight stops.

P.S. We are now married!!! Aussie Girl and Colombiano. Cant wait to go to Cali to see colombia and meet his family!

Briz-LA-Houston-Cali G'day Jem

great to hear you got your Colombiano! I am leaving in 3 weeks to see my girlfriend again in Medellin...and ask her parents' permission to marry her! Can't wait!
This time I am flying Per-Bri-LAX-Vegas-LAX-Bog-Mde..having a 'boys week' in Vegas for my mate's stag night.
However my preferred route is via Miami as there is a direct flight with AA from Miami to Medellin and...it's another excuse to visit my fave city MIAMI!!!
Anyway, congratulations!!!!

I'm going in the opposite direction, but I found it way cheaper to go through LA. I'm going Bogota - LA - Brisbane and then returning Melbourne - LA - Bogota. Avianca now has one (or maybe two) direct flights from LA to Bogota per day. The one I'm getting leaves LA at night, but I've also found a hotel in LA that has a cheap day rate to give me somewhere to go in the 10 hours between my arrival in LA and departure for Bogota.

I also find the immigration staff at Miami really rude. If not going through LA, I'd go through Houston with Continental.

cheers,
