"Meeting women in hell"

I dont like to get involved in politic issues but, Today one of my students brought me a magazine called "Amicus The Magazine" This is a Union magazine in the Uk, this people say they help Union members in Colombia who are imprisoned for standing up for their rights, thats good excellent and i like when people from other countries want to help colombians but there is an article in this magazine " Meeting the women in hell" Reading it made me have doubts about if im blind and i dont want to see the reality or everyday there is another bunch of people that want to make the country to look worse than it is now......Or this is showed in a very cruel way..If you wanna read it i will send it to you by email 'cause i dont know how to populate it in a PBH post.

Unfortunately There is a reason why pbh has a politics and war forum, and there are many tragic stories from a number of angles, and sometimes with a number of frames.

To my reasoning the tragedies and difficulties in and of Colombia are an astoundingly complex and compound issue so interwoven that I've given up pondering them.

The tragedy isn't something most visitors see. It's in the tugurios and the swelling invasiones of dezplazados, and far flung unstable parts that people don't go to. It's in the 1.5 - 3 million people forced from their homes, in the victims of landmines, etc etc.

I also think that Colombia has been on radar for it's problems so long that some people writing about it to the greater world really seem to be reaching for the shock-value prose button in order to catch attention of readers who already know there are problems there.

This is probably unrelated to above but:
Union articles can sometimes be a little loopy too - While I was in university there was a huge shortage of affordable student housing. Eventually they started working on a new project that would provide rent-controlled space for several thousand students. Imagine my surprise when I flipped open the union magazine at my job that summer to read the union slagging the development becuase of it's location.

Come on Shirley. Platano found a study that says they are euphorically happy so it's gotta be a wonderful place. Right up there with Nigeria.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

you know what.. the majority of the people i know... are ignorant to whats happening in the rest of the world (closed minded idiots) and there is nothing i can do about it.. but there is something that i've "learned" to do. i ignore the few stupid things they tend to say about my country.. simply because i know better. so do the same. if you know that their just blowing everything out of proportions in those magazines then, dont even waste your tears... be strong. as long as you know things aren't like that, dont worry about what others are saying. its BS anyways. :)
