Only gringo in B/quilla BAQ,

You are not the only gringo in B/quilla. Though I was begining to think that I was. Drop me a note when you see this. I am definately interested in hearing what brought you here and how (in your opinion) it compares to living in the States.

Count me in BAQ......I intend to come there for the carnaval. I'd like to party a lot and perhaps meet a woman (non-pro/hooker) or two during my stay. I'll probably be rolling solo, so right now I am looking for an apartment in Barranquilla. Cheers

Markaveli,If you're only Markaveli,

If you're only planning to be here for Carnaval, I would reconsider the apartment idea and just stay at a local hotel. There are a few very nice ones here....all for about the price of a night at the Holiday Inn back in the States. Try searching the web for the following hotels:
1. Hotel Dann Carlton
2. El Prado
3. Barranquilla Plaza
4. Country Norte
5. Puerta Del Sol

Also, if you're looking to meet a nice local lady, try www.latinamericancupid.com. I met my wife there.

Accomodations High Energy....what is wrong with getting an apartment for a few weeks? I'd like to stay in B'Quilla if possible for 3 weeks to a month. I think an apartment would be cheaper, and also more private as well. I want to arrive 2 weeks before carnaval and maybe leave a week or a week and a half after carnval is finished.

Thanks for the website. I'll look at it, although I'd rather try to meet women when I'm there.

What you think? HighEnergy, the only place I know that is decent is JESUS ONE, Around the corner from El Prado, but I think it is about the same price as a room at Barranquilla Plaza. What do you think?

MARKAVELI, I will probably be over by Jesus One first of next week. I will stop in and ask what the rate is per week and for a full month. That is THE ONLY PLACE I know of that is not a rat hole. I stayed there for 3 weeks when I first moved here while I was waiting on my house to get finished up, it is nice but I don;t remember what I paid and that was a while back.

Hey BAQ, I’ll be in Quilla for the month of February, Carnaval ‘06. It will be great to meet you and any other PBH happy members for a few beers and a few bottles of aguardiente. Right now, it looks like my 2 daughters will be traveling with me; it will be their first time in Colombia. We’ll be mostly in the upscale places of Barranquilla, Santa Marta and Cartagena; don’t want to expose them to the real Colombia just yet. No dusty barrio Santuario, barrio Abajo for them, I don’t think they’ll wanna get their "Bebe" shoes dirty so quickly. In due time and if they’re really anything like me or carry my leftist, bleeding heart liberal blood I’ll have them begging me to take them to party in Soledad with the sweaty poor barranquillero modefoques instead of the gringo loving, plastic, channel #5 smelling northern Barranquilla crowd.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Elmo ain't kidding I witnessed it, he can put them back! One of these days we're gonna have to have a BIG drinking contest. My gf would want in on it too, she one the last one we had between the two of us, but I KNOW it was because of the soroche :)))))
I'm still trying to see if I can make Carnaval 2006, but it looks difficult at this point :(

Rubi - if you're there, a big ass drink-off is in store, Currumba style. Aguardiente, aguila, ron, whiskey, whatever's left.

Elmo - you know it ain't shit to polish off bottles of liquor down there. The next day for us old farts will be a beast. LOL!!!
