This is my first Colombian Christmas and so far it is a blast, quite literally. The fireworks have been rattling the neighborhood for the last couple of weeks. They will increase in magnitude as the month continues and now they are just part of the background. It can be a little unsettling, to say the least, and takes some getting used to. But it's all part of the tradition of Christmas here which is one extended party. Yes, it's the Fourth of July in Christmas! Tonight is "Noche de Las Velitas" in which the entire city lights candles and has parties since tomorrow is a holiday! Love those frequent holidays. It's funny, whenever there is one I ask my wife 'what is this holiday'. 'I don't know,' she will say with a laugh. Later in the month everybody has their long vacation and heads to the ocean for a holiday. All of the resort areas will be packed. We are headed for more remote parts, near Capurganá. Looking forward to 10 days of virgin forest, white sand beaches and clear skies. Anybody with tips on the area, please post. Well, gotta go...the party starts soon. ¡Feliz navidad!

utopiacowboy says on Dec 8, 2004, 17:29: I was in Medellin for a week last Christmas and I don't remember any fireworks at all? I must have been distracted with, ahem, something...... Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

pablorojas says on Dec 8, 2004, 17:39: oh the fireworks Christmas in Colombia is priceless in my opinion, and Medellin is definitely not an exception to say the least. I feel like I am exiled because the plane tickets to Medellin are pricier these days and I can't go this Xmas. Im green with envy.
