Medellin/Cali

Im looking for a cheap place to stay one night in Medellin because I have a flight out of there next week.

Also, Ive been advised for Buenaventura that its cheaper and safer to stay in Cali and take the bus there each day. How long does the trip take by bus, and are there any good, safe and cheap places to stay in Cali? I have a couple weeks before i end up there but I will be in Choco, so any info now would help.

Gracias,
Kyle

If you're going to Choco and B'Ventura, the last place you should be worrying about if it's safe is Cali.

Re: Medellin
Are you arriving in Medellin and then connecting to Cali? there are two airports in Medellin, one for regional flights and the other for domestic/international flight, you'll probably will be arriving at the Jose Maria Cordova airport therefore it's not worth the trip to Medellin so stay at a hotel close to the airport, I'd recommend Hotel Santiago de Armas, a small but comfortable hotel very close to the airport. The other, Las Lomas, is expensive.

Stay away from Buenaventura, currently it's a place with a very high security problem. Who told you to stay there? as you can see from Brode's posting, it's far from Cali, so don't stay there.

Ok, so I already know about Buenaventura and the violence. That's pretty much why I want to check the city out (ive been to Arauca, Barranca and Putumayo, so i'm not just wondering in like an idiot, well, too much of an idiot). The person who told me to stay in Cali then go to buenaventura has worked in buenaventura, is a gringa, and says that maybe a pain, but should be worth it. I haven't been able to find a hotel in buenaventura thats under $100 a night (100 US $).

Well, currently I have not been able to get to Choco yet, so I will see what I do about that. So no worries about Medellin stuff (was going to take flight from city to VigĂa del Fuerte, across the river from Bojaya). I might be able to get info on Buenaventura, like a hotel, so this may not be too high important. I'll only be there for 3 nights, then off to Popayan. I appreciate the heads-up on Buenaventura. Hell, maybe I'll stay in San Cipriano then take the bus to the port city.
