Medellin to Sincelejo

Anyone made the trip recently?

How long by car?

Relatively cold/warm/hot route in regards to safety?

Thanks in advance!

Say 12 hours... could be longer depending on road closures. Although a "professional" Colombian van driver would do it in less, I personally drive a bit slower, take breaks and not so daring on overtaking.

There are some zones in northern Antioquia that are not great (coca grown etc)... for driving through, they should be fine though.

Get hold of the Guia de Rutas, it's only 13,000 pesos and good to travel with.

que nota!

Lester - A friend of mine has invited me up there. As she says, there really isnt a lot to do but its' a quiet town that offers a nice escape. Also mentioned that foreign baseball players come there a lot for some type of yearly competition?!?! Wonder what that is? Anyway, also will be a base point to head out to Tolu.

Pedro - That's what I was hoping NOT to hear! haha I was guessing around 10 hours, as Medellin to Cali takes me 7, but I don't really know the route or the roads. I heard from various police that there area is "warm", with "so-so" places as they put it, waving there hand back and forth with a facial expression like they just sucked a lemon.

10 hours is probably about right, then. Just no time for nice long lunches or anything.

The first 200kms out of Medellin is all mountains, curves and trucks trying to overtake other trucks. Higher potential for delays. The rest is dead flat and much faster.

As with any road journey in Colombia, I always give a lower limit, but there is no upper limit. Due to rockfalls, construction, accidents, retenes etc. You can sit for hours in one spot, so any previous idealistic time estimates go out the window.

Sounds Amazing! Can I come?

What is the determining factor between Amazing and never coming home? All it takes is one wacked out fool. Could be found on any street in America...true. Attitude and confidence?....or Arrogance? Other?

I'm in either way!

Pedro - thanks for the info. The geography bit is crucial in the planning of going anywhere here, and I planned to leave at about 3pm so good to get the mountains out of the way while it is still daylight just like heading out to Cali. Just talked to her again and she spoke with a friend who said it takes them 9 hours from Sincelejo to Medellin on a motorcycle. So, without unexpected delays (yeah, right, this IS Colombia) I am figuring 9-10.

Chris TC - get your bike, let's go!

If you never been to Sincelejo, you are not missing anything, unless you like:...hot miserable weather, dust, and cockroaches!. It has been many years that I been there, but Sincelejo is the most miserable ugly place in Colombia, after Buenaventura. (My ex-husband still remembers it as the worst place he is ever been).
If you are driving to Cartagena, it is different if you want to stop and visit.
That is just my opinion.

Feliz Navidad!

big tex...thank you! I am packing now!

can I hire a driver and car? ...... promise to follow behind you on your bike like one of Lance Armstrong's crew in the Italian Alps to change any flat tires!

I swear I will not let you have any of the Brie cheese and champaine I am drinking to wash down the lobster and Kobe beef, medium rare, flown in from Japan.

Lisa Zee...thanks for the heads-up!

I don't really plan on it being much anything significant. We will be heading out to Tolu anyway, so most of my time there will be to check in and out of the hotel! haha

Uh yes, you see, some of us have positive opinions of Colombia, and enjoy a variety of things. From your other posts, you seem either like a troll or someone who has no clue whats up.

Yes, I will be traveling by motorcycle - in my opinion one of the best ways to enjoy the scenery and be closer to nature while traveling, although definitely not for everyone!

that trip can be done in about 8 hours mininmum, 10 hours maximum. Once you get down to Puerto Valdivia is gonna be hot as hell for the rest of the trip. I don't really know much about Sincelejo, except about the Corralejas, I only been there for a short stop. But Tolu and Coveñas are really close by no more than hour or so. Coveñas has a really nice beach and Tolu is party town.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS...

Thanks minina, great info and notes taken! That is what this board needs a little more of!

BTW - it's amazing how quick the board activity for tonight was filtered of all the BS once I put you on ignore TC. Acting like that, you prove your worth very quickly, and what kid of person you are(n't). Just in case you don't know, "ignore" means that the member can no longer see any posts by you gumming up their screen. Feel free to respond, just remember that me and I'm sure many others will be happily and passively NOT seeing anything you write!
