Your trip to Armenia The bus ride from Medellin to Armenia is not bad - aproximately 5-6 hours. You will leave from Terminal Del Sur - aproxiamately 10 minutes from Poblado - website is: http://www.terminaldelsur.com. Extremely modern bus terminal with restaurants and stores. I used Profesionales del Transportes - these are 8 passenger mini van/station wagon. They charge 32,000 pesos per person - slightly more than the bus but they get you there a little quicker(5 hours) as they are smaller and can go around those slow trucks easier. The ride is through the mountains and very windy, it is more difficult for a big bus to pass. Buses are available as well:

Flota Occidental(29.000pesos) 5.15am 6.15 7.15 8.15 9.30 10.15 11 11.15 12.30pm 1.30 2.30 3.30 4.30 5.30 6.30 7.30 8.30
9.30 10.30 11.30
Empresa Arauca(28.000pesos) 4.30am 6.30 8.45 9.45 11.15 1pm 3,5

There are a few others that might go as well, you can contact the Terminal.

As for Fincas in Eje Cafetero - I used Claudia at
www.turismoquindio.com

They have a wide variety of fincas to choose from.

Most of the excursions to Nevado Del Ruiz begin early from Manizales about a 1.5 -2 hour drive from Armenia on your way to Medellin. So best to do that either on your way from Medellin to Armenia or on your way back to Medellin.

Many of the hotels in Manizales offer this excursion
and you can also try:

There is so much to do and see in the region! If you have any further questions, please let me know!

it's a beautiful ride.. pick a GOOD bus company.. because you'll be jacknifing thru mountain roads.. and premium is on BRAKES! hehe.. but seriously.. if you get woozy easily.. bring your own bags(barf).. i took that ride one time.. the the lady in front was chucking it in a bag.. then she threw the bag out the window.. and some of it splatter on the english guy sitting in window seat(window open) in the back of the bus! haha

I PREFER i prefer the larger buses as the small vans are to tight for comfort..the big buses have A/C that will freeze your nuts off and they can pass just as easy as the small vans they have some son of a bitch big engines cause when they pull out to pass ...its like they have turbos come on

listo

Things To Do Profesionales del Transportes goes from Medellin to Armenia/Pereira. If you will be taking a mini van directly to Manizales from Medellin - Flota Ospina does this route - http://www.aldirectorio.net/flotaospina/index.htm.

As far as things to do in Manizales - Peter's guide has some suggestions - poorbuthappy.com/colombia/node/21616

There are many tour companies that will go to Nevado Del Ruiz and then to the hot water springs - Manizales Tours is another - need contact info., let me know. Due to a lack of time and clothing - no gloves and winter coat - I have not done this excusion. Termales El Otono is suppose to be great - you can also stay there:
http://www.termaleselotono.com/

I went to Termales at Santa Rosa De Cabal - the town of Santa Rosa De Cabal is aproximately 45 -60 mintes from Manizales - 20 minutes from Pereira. Once in the town of Santa Rosa De Cabal - there are chivas, jeeps, or taxis that will take you to the Termales - aproximately 20 minutes. You can spend the day at the Termales or stay over at the Hotel, info is: http://www.hoteltermales.com/

As for the Quindio/Armenia area - their are so many great things such as Salento/Valle De Cocora(highly recommended)Parque Cafe, Panaca, and many activities such as horse back riding, hiking, Balsaje which I did and it was great. If you need a guide in the area I can pass contact info. - Francisco was recommended by turisomoquindio.com and he is great - actually was written about in the NY Times article on the Coffee area.
