While in Medellin in June & July,I will be going to Santa Marta by bus... & am told it is about a 12 hour ride... If I wanted to break that up into 2,what is a good midway stopping point to spend the night?

Ayapel is about 30 minutes out of your way, but it´s a charming town on a lake with a beautiful church. It is a tourist destination, so I'm sure you can find a decent place to stay. I drove through Caucasia and didn't like the looks of it. No charm in sight from the main road. Don't forget to bring some juice boxes or something to drink for the guys at the military checkpoints.
