The Murder Investigation Of Women In Medellin ; Which Apparently Targets “PREPAGOS.

October 12, 2007

There is preoccupation with the authorities of MedellĂn by the death of at least eleven women in the two first weeks of November.

According to the commander of the Metropolitan Police of the Valley of Aburrá, general Marco Antonio Pedreros Creek, these cases are attributed to multiple circumstances.

The official noted that in the two of the cases, the victims worked as prostitutes, usually referred to as “Prepagos in Medellin, Colombia. The young women were called and invited to meet the strangers, soon after they turned up dead.

The general, Pedreros Rivera, expressed that in several cases the murders where family-related and other violent crimes where attributed to a jealous boyfriend, or significant other.

General Rivera explained that the cases have been happening daily.

On the 1st of November Garcia Carmona , 29 years of age, was stabbed to death.

That same day, Nancy Garcia, 35 years of age, was shot dead.

The 2nd of November, Tatiana Gisela Alvarez Velasquez, 31 years of age, apparently was beat to death.

On the 4th of November, a minor of 15 years of age, apparently was shot by a friend in the middle of a party. That same day Marine Light Herrera Perez, 28 years of ages, was stabbed to death.

The 8th of November the corpse of an unidentified woman was discovered in the MedellĂn River. That night, another woman was found dead by an apparent bullet. She was soon identified as MĂłnica Maria Go'mez, 27 years of age, who appeared to be pregnant at the time of her death.

Friday, the 9th of November, another woman without identification was discovered. She appeared to be about thirty years in age. Her corpse was carved up and wrapped in barbed wire.

Hours later a half-naked woman was discovered. The victim appeared to be between 25 and 30 years of age. She apparently died by erotic asphyxiation.

To add to the list, the case of a woman who had disappeared days before in the and whose corpse was found the 31st of October in San Jero'nimo. Sonia Margarita Madrid, who the authorities found dead on Saturday in a luxury automobile which was left in the center of Medellin. Her death was attributed to an apparent drug overdose.

Very sad state of affairs. It's all fun and games till someone gets hurt and in that business someone always does.

Hard to believe people get murdered in Medellin.

Imaginate.

MitchAlvarez says on Nov 15, 2007, 13:39:

people get murdered everywhere. how many women were killed in middle east this month? how many women were killed in latin america this month?

whether they were prepagos or not is irrelevant to me. security in medellin is much improved but as in any major city in the world there is crime.

Be interesting if these murders would get so swept under the rug, if it were gringos or other paying customers associated with these prepagos who were the ones getting killed. Fellas, just be smart and constantly aware.

No matter how you slice it, 11 prepagos getting killed in 2 weeks in Medellin in apparently different circumstances is high and quite interesting. These particular instances are related to Medellin, not any other city in the world. No need to broadstroke it.

pedro says on Nov 15, 2007, 15:42:

Only 2 were prepagos, as far as the article confirms.

A certain proportion of the 11 were the usual jealous boyfriend killing or family related.

2 confirmed murders of a type does not tells us for sure we have a trend. On the other hand, it seems 11 women dead in two weeks is an unusually high number, according to the police.

¡save pow wow!

Medellin Traveler says on Nov 15, 2007, 15:48:

Add two more women found dead to the list of eleven, that's 13 dead in 13 days.

That many dead is about normal. Medellin has about two murders a day and that's considered good. They used to have close to 10 a day.

tomtom33 says on Nov 16, 2007, 02:16:

My novia tells me that the number is up to 18 now. In her opinion, this is not normal. In a metro area of 3.3 million, there are going to be a certain number of murders. This number of younger females is not normal.

Still seems unusually high and now the number up even more. Perhaps a serial killer?

Murdered Women in Medellin Sound Alarm in Colombia

Bogota, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Colombian authorities and social organizations are concerned at the escalation of violence in the country, after the bodies of three women were found in the city of Medellin, raising the number of murdered women to 15 over the past 20 days.

Investigators insist that there is not a pattern common to all deaths, which they say are passionate homicides or the result of family violence, ruling out the existence of a serial killer.

The NGO Vamosmujer issued a communiqué criticizing society's justifications, according to which, women are responsible for the violence affecting them.

However, the problem seems to be more serious. Statistics from the Center for Integral Attention of Victims of Sexual Violence (CAIVAS) show that 201 women and 388 girls were raped or sexually abused, and 2,219 women were victims of family violence during the first semester of the year in Medellin alone.

The Center reported that 35 women, nine of whom had filed a report for family violence, were murdered from January to August 2007.

According to Vamosmujer, statistics are inaccurate, because most women are scared, ashamed or treated inappropriately when they file a report to the police, so they become victims of institutions and law-enforcement agencies.
