You're absolutely right, Greg. However, I am curious as to how you know my wife's a nice girl? Or that I am even married? Or that I have even been to Medellin? Pablo's adventures in Medellin are a complete fabrication as well. Right now he is in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Greg444 El Poblado is a small part of Medellin. There are plenty of other barrios to find girls in, even in El Poblado it is not that hard, maybe your friends can't speak Spanish.

Mitch, are you contradicting Greg? Cuidado, Senor! You say you met an 18 year old girl. How do we know she isn't 23 and just looks younger? Or is really 14 and wearing her sister's clothes? How do we even know she's a girl? If she's a nice girl she could be my wife - we can't say for certain. However, there are apparently two gringo millionaires in Medellin who cannot find a woman without the help of a certain taxi driver named Pablo. Hmmm, I wonder what kind of women the taxi driver shows them? Nice ones I hope. Like my wife. If I was married that is.

Greg WOW !!!! What is the basis of your statement (post). What experience(s) have you had that would bring you to this conclusion ? Anyone that couldn't find a woman in Medellin has something deeply wrong with them. I am not a world traveler but I have traveled the amercias completely for many years and I have yet to find a city like Medellin and its wonderful climate, modern infastructure, culture and beautiful people. I came there 5 1/2 years ago for four days to meet a woman and fell in love with a city.

I can live anywhere in any country of choosing. I have homes in other places but Medellin is the best experience in the amercias I have seen. If Santiago, Chile wasn't such a long commute I would consider living there.

As to your comment about marrying someone with children I must assume you are very young and immature as I have raised a few children of my own and two step childen fathered by other men. I can tell you that the most rewarding experience in my life (equal in all respects to my own bilogical children) was participating in the lifes of my step children which I do everyday.

You are correct about one statement that you make and it's a fact that there are nice homes, good looking Colombian guys with money and nice cars but for everyone of those guys there are 1000s women that would love to have them. What happens to the rest well they settle for less. The greatest promblem is not finding them but rather dealing with the cultural and language differences. That's the big problem.

utopiacowboy says on Dec 22, 2004, 13:15:

You may be right, Viewpoint. Some of them may settle for less. They may even settle for a taxi driver named Pablo and his two gringo millionaire friends who cannot find anyone else.

Utopia Cowboy It's not that difficult to compete in Medellin for any womans attention. If you can field the costs of entertaining a woman that you are serious about, have a home and car, and speak "spanlish" you would have so many interested women that they would drive you nuts. The question becomes what do you do when you catch one or how many do you want. I think I have met the two guys he is talking about that relocated from Costa Rica several months ago. Yes, some women may settle for less probably about 500,000 between 18-80 in Medellin would give it serious consideration. If you are for real, they will be on your doorstep with their suitcase ready to marry you at noon tomorrow. Then what are you going to do. These woman (for the most part) are after VISAs but rather a stable home and family. They are content to live their lives in Colombia.

Gregg is right about a few things (if you take them to an extreme) as there are Colombian men in Medellin that will take a beautiful model to Europe for a short vacation or another city or country for dinner. It's pocket change for them but they are few and far between.

utopiacowboy says on Dec 22, 2004, 13:30:

I am relying on your word, Viewpoint. Greg disagrees but he will defend to the death your right to say it. He has two millionaires and a taxi driver named Pablo to prove it. And what do you do when you catch one? Is it possible you would take one home and one of her kids insists on turning on the AC in the middle of the winter? I have heard that this is possible but Pablo, my taxi driver, is unable to verify this.

Utopia Cowboy I want to meet the two millionaires that can't find a woman in Medellin. They would have to be dead in a casket to be that incapable. I was going to say in a wheelchair but even two millionare men in wheelchairs would hit a home run.

utopiacowboy says on Dec 22, 2004, 13:39:

We should ask him about this. Greg, are the two gringo millionaires in fact, dead? Pablo, the taxi driver said they were stiff, but did he really mean stiffs?

Utopia Cowboy If these millionaries are so desperate they can always drive down to the intersection of Calle 33 at the foot of las Palmas on the other (west) side of the overpass from San Diego Mall. along Ave. Poblado. Plenty of working girls (and guys) hanging out there almost every night.

Lots of people might get lucky there but it's sure not my style. I am going to my country club where there plenty of women that speak english, have visas and want to share some quality time with someone.

Hell, they might even want to go to Panama City for dinner.

Seriously, I see the girls but I never see many customers so times are tough for everyone including the millionaries.

We are tired of being happy, Roofus. We're like the gringo millionaires who are getting some really bad advice from their cab driver, Pablo. We just don't know any better or maybe we believed everything we read on the internet. Or some guy told us that we could get a nice girl there but she might have three kids, one of whom likes to turn the AC on in the middle of the winter. Would we be happy with that? AC on in the winter? Heck, no. Not that any of this is actually true. But I have heard about things like this.

ShazCas could post pictures of some obscure castle but does that mean she lives in a castle even though everyone in Colombia thinks so? "Friends" is good. Can't go wrong having friends that's for sure.

It won't matter if you are married or not as if you are living under the same roof she's going to consider that married. That's why they passed a law years ago in Colombia mandating common law marriages after two years of co-habitation by a man and woman. So many people never got formally married in Colombia that they passed a law shortening the period defining common law marriages to two years.

Too late now Utopia for you to escape with your life. On the A/C deal just crank it down to the lowest setting and shut down the furnace on the coldest day or night of the year. That will break them of that habit.

I am sure you have now experienced everything including (but not limited to) not putting toilet paper in the toilet as it will plug the toilet (so you need a small waste basket to collect the toilet paper, then of course you can't eat burnt toast because that will give you cancer, and don't forget that we can't eat any kind of meat or chicken without condemnents (heaven forbid you cook a steak on the grill without the god awful green paste smothered on it). Rice for every meal and lots of candy for the children so they have hyper energy (why not ?). How about the vegetables you used to prepare (no more). Or putting mayonnaise instead of butter on everything type of food especially the vegs or french fries and god knows everything else. Remember too that you can use bleach when washing whites are it will distroy the clothes and it's not made for washing anything but toilets.

You just wait until Greg gets his hands on a real live fire breathing full blooded Colombian woman as he will find that there are more things to fear in Colombia than the FARC. Especially when she masters the art of speaking english.

There will be one boss at home and he won't be it. He will wear the pants when he goes to work during the day but he will have to take them off the minute he come through the door at night. He better not be late as his life depends upon being home "on time".

When Greg reels in his fish we will know "who caught who" !!!

greenday says on Dec 22, 2004, 17:24:

cowboy, you rascal, you stole my disclaimer!!!!!!! But I'll let you have it......
now about Medellín......yes, I've been there many times. It does boil down to what a poster above said, if you have class, can speak spanish, good looking, have a great personality (did I just describe myself??), you'll have no problem finding multiple (fine) women in Medellín who would marry you and leave their city. I have 2 right now who would do it.... Of course, if you're a millionaire with the above qualities, even better (I'll never tell if I'm in that catagory).....
As far as the millioniares who can't find a women, it just proves that you need more than money to find a fine paisa, and it takes a little more than just being a gringo.

0 funny, 0 helpful.

dwmte says on Dec 22, 2004, 18:52:

finding that paisa, greg that's really not a big problem, you just gotta look and send out the nice, strong energy, 'i'm lookin for a real fine lady'. you put that energy right and are of good 'stable' yourself. it will happen. you will find that most fine, desireable, faithful, paisa, you've dreamed of and seen.

now the truth. marrying one of antioquia's best is not for the faint hearted and weak........hardly. it's a real tough job, they're fine, tough women. count on it. from day one, a man will know--and accept--that she is the boss of the house. end of story. that's that.

so, young brother, if you're REALLY ready for that, it's there, someone made specially for you!

and, no!, medellin is not overrated. it's one of the earth's most exceptional cities. love her dearly. in fact, i'll bet that those unlucky millionairs and pablo love her, too.

happy holy days to you and yours, and don't judge dear medellin to hastily. you're gonna get the lady you seek, and you'll never regret it. however, just be aware that it's not a wali in the park

peace,
d w martin
