Medellin or Bogota? And which Spanish Program? "HELP"

Hello,

I'm coming to Colombia for the first time in May and I'm wanting to participate in a Spanish learning program for 1 month. After extensive research I have narrowed it down to the two I like the best. Nueva Lengua in Bogota and EAFIT in Medellin. EAFIT is cheaper but I also want to go for the experience also and not just learning.

Where is it cheaper to live nice for 1 month, Bogota or Medellin?

Where are the more beautiful women? lol (Come on, I'm single and 23!)

Are both of the programs legit like they seem to be?

Where's the better weather in May and June?

Thanks alot guys!

I've only visited Bogota a few times, and have lived in Medellin for a little more than a year. Maybe I'm biased, but I'd say Medellin wins on most of the points. The weather is great (70's and above) year round while Bogota is quite a bit colder (60's). On average, I'd say the women are about the same, but you'll have less extranjero competition in Medellin. Medellin is definately cheaper, though Bogota isn't expensive either.

I took two months of spanish at EAFIT when I got here. Nueva Lengua also has a program here in Medellin, and I think it is a little less expensive than EAFIT. Personally, (though I'm a cheapass also), I think most of the spanish schools here are wayyyyyyy overpriced. You pay about $12 an hour for a group class at EAFIT. Considering that the average teacher makes about $6 an hour, I'd recommend trying to find a private teacher to give you classes for about $7.50 an hour. But EAFIT is nice to start for a month to help you meet a few other people and get familiar with things.

Go to Quito and you can get one-on-one lessons for 6 dollars an hour. The rent is also dirt cheap there. Once you get a bit fluent then go to Colombia and chase all that tail.

The women are nicer in MEDELLIN! :-)
And besides that: Weather is far better, city looks great, nice restaurants, lots of clubs...FORGET BOGOTA.

OK, I am a language fiend - look at the Spanish forum here: http://poorbuthappy.com/learn_spanish/

I do nothing but study both English and Spanish - emphasis on Spanish.

Not taking into account the women aspect, beautiful can be found anywhere, nor the weather and just sticking to the language question, you will be MUCH better off in Bogotá.

Why? Because the Spanish spoken there is flawless, clear and anunciated. They respect the structure of the language a bit more than in Medellín. Outside of the classroom you will interact with poeple who are not teachers in your school. IT takes a LONG time to adjust to the accent in Medellín, compared to Bogotá and I'm not even mentioning the rampant slang that exists in Medellín compared to Bogotá. Yes every city has slang.

Only heed my advice if you are more serious about your Spanish than the women. But ask yourself - Do you want to interact and understand these women or do you just want to look at them with a blank stare when they talk?

You're going in May or June? Why wait? By that time the peso will be just north of 1600. What's it today 1930?
