Medellin Night Life

Hello everyone!! I'm new to this site. Im excited about being able to communicate with people from all over. Im planning to go to Medellin, Colombia for about 3 weeks in January. Now I've been there a couple of times but that was about 4 years ago. I was wondering what are the hot spots now?

Ive been told el parque lleras in el poblado, la 70, la 33, las palmas, palma hia, mangos, canalon, envigado, and sabaneta.

are those accurate? what are the places where americans go? any advice. i also heard there are bars in el poblado where they play hip hop and where i can watch my baseball, football, and stuf..

any advice is very welcome. thanks

Yup, pretty much.

Around Parque Lleras you will find gringos... as far as clubs with gringos, Mangos, Palmahia and Blue. Dejavu is the best hip hop club in Medellin and as far as sports I watch mine on Sopcast so I donno. Later!

MitchAlvarez,

Welcome to PBH.

You basically listed all the gringo haunts.

I am planning on being in Medellin in January as well. Maybe we can meet up sometime.

So what you are telling us is that you want to go to Medellin and hang out with other gringos watching all the same sports crap you watched back home. Yes, travel certainly broadens one's horizons.

Thank you all for the advice. MT I'll definitely keep in touch man. As far Mr. John Stark, whats wrong with my choice of sports? Im sorry you need to call it crap. Here in NY I watch Soccer at least 3 times a week. But when I got to Medellin I dont want to miss my NFL and NBA matchups. IT will be playoff time in the nfl buddy.

Anyhow thanks for the advice guys.

ManlNred, he wants to sit in Poblado with a bunch of gringos watching the NBA and NFL as though he was back in Sandusky, Ohio or whatever hell hole he's from. And then you wonder why I think gringos have no business being in Colombia.

John its a pleasure to meet you. Im 29 years old and my parents are both from Medellin, Colombia. I was born and raised in New York City until the age of 8 when I was sent to live in Envigado. I returned back to New York when I was 15. Ive been here since but have visited Medellin only once since then, but even that was a couple of years ago. I'm going back in January and I already have cousins and many friends who are ready to take me out. But Im a big sports fan and in January there are some key NBA and NFL matchups. Im not really interested in sitting down with anybody as long as I get to watch the games. So Im not sure if im your true definition of Gringo. I certainly dont think so.

John is a cowboy living in Texas. His wife is Paisa. They have a "Brady Bunch" family. When he's not riding horses he's on PBH under the guise of a 17 year old high school bully that plays football and humps blow up dolls.

Oh, well, then go to Poblado I guess. Just don't go to Medellin with a superiority complex.

This asshole who managed to move to Australia at 26 returned to Medellin after 2 years as a 28 year old. He just kept insulting paisas to his paisa friends and even said rolos were better (moron) and then went back to Australia with his superiority complex holding his ego undeservedly high. Avoid that route, and try and be humble, you will feel a lot more welcome.

And the champions bar is good, it should have all the NFL and NBA you want. I went there once, but since my sport is real football which is beloved in Colombia anyway, I got to stay at the local bars to enjoy it!

My family owns some property in Laureles, Llanogrande, and La Floresta. Im not sure if ill stay at one of those places or just hit up a hotel like last time. Last time I stood at some hotel en la 70. It was actually pretty good and economical.

MitchAlvarez-

Yes. I have stayed in El Poblado, for several reasons. First, I didn't know anyone in Medellin on my first trip, but heard that that was the place to stay. Second trips, again, 'cuz several gringos wanted to book their trips around my schedule so I could show them around, El Poblado again.

Now, I'm a procrastinator, so for my third trip, I booked a flight without a hotel, but did have an invitation to stay at a Paisa's family hotel, that I met in Chicago after she contacted me about my website. She invited me to her home, then one night we went out for dinner and when I told her I was going back she asked if I would stay at her families hotel. I said YES!! Again, it's in El Poblado.

My next trip.... I was thinking about supporting a PBH member and stay at PepeA's "Hotel La Casa Medellin." And from what I know, it's in El Poblado.

But it may be that a few nights my luggage is on its own because I'm sleeping up in the hillside barrios, and have been invited to stay at a couple of fincas.

I'm excited to make my return to "The City of Eternal Spring!"

I spent 15 days in Medellin and it's outscirts last year (New Years) and Im hooked!!
El Poblado is the most upscale area and parque lleras is wild every night of the week.
It's almost like south beach without the beach! I have friends from Medellin, but some nights I ventured out solo and had a great time! The people were friendly and anxious to dance!
This New Year I'm off to Cali, then Cartagena and the rest of the coast......
Suerte!!
