Hi friends. I have been to Medellin and enjoyed my time there but I have a feeling that I missed some kool places locals hang out. Places like cafes, bars, live music places frequented by locals. I have been to the big dance clubs and Parque Lleras area but I find those places, although interesting and hopping, to be not quite my preference. I would like to meet a more laid back crowd, young and middle-aged diversity, who enjoy dancing, drinking, music, conversations but in a more down to earth environment. I believe there a quite a few people here who are very familiar with Medellin and I would like to ask you advice and recommendations on any such places. Thanks for your help.

Enjoy the doobie (which ain´t THAT good) with care for the occasional policía standing guard - ¡Chimbezaje! Weekends are often good at the places on the southern border of the U of Antioquia campus, lotsa youngsters and such.

If you go two streets over from p Lleres there is a disco called Santos (and a good one next door) which is a uni down to earth type crowd; best on Saturdays.

bigtexas1974 says on Aug 4, 2008, 08:18: Medellin is a big city....walk any direction AWAY from Parque Lleras and you are bound to meet real interesting people! Go around any of the parks of Envigado, Sabaneta, Belen, Centro and you'll find good times. Stretch it out and head to Copacabana or La Estrella and you'll be overwhelmed with nice people and pretty girls. Medellin has a lot more to offer than Poblado... "Sex is one of the most wholesome, beautiful, and natural experiences money can buy." - Steve Martin "You don't appreciate a lot of stuff in school until you get a little older. Little things, like getting spanked every day by a middle aged woman." 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

morphus says on Aug 4, 2008, 08:21: Yeah but people come from all over Medellin to Poblado. No need to go other places in Medellin.

utopiacowboy says on Aug 5, 2008, 20:28: Not everyone comes from all over Medellin to Poblado. We never go there and I'd rather hang out at Parque Belen than Parque Lleras any day. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

morphus says on Aug 6, 2008, 05:24: Yeah well, I been all over Medellin and to Parque Belen. There is'nt much going on outside of Poblado and Centro.

manINred says on Aug 6, 2008, 16:51: The best most laid-back nightlife are the parties in the homes of people, from what I found. Barbeques and the like. Despite finding it a generally obnoxious place, Poblado has a couple of good spots, but Las Palmas is better. There are lots of places hidden away, you just have to find them.

dwmte7 says on Aug 7, 2008, 05:05: going back to the eighties, the private clubs in homes in las palmas were some of the best around. people installed bars and kitchens to accomodate their trade. no advertisement, just personal referrals. dwmte 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

gogopher says on Aug 7, 2008, 08:56: Thanks everyone. I'd imagine it would be pretty difficult to locate private parties and get invited. I guess I will just have to comb the streets to find a place I like.

morphus says on Aug 7, 2008, 09:21: If you spend enough time in Medellin you might get invited to some private parties by strangers. Just beware at you're own risk. I've been invited to lots of parties. A lot of rich Colombianos wanted to show off their wealth to me and invited me back to mansions where I would receive free food, booze and was introduced to classy Colombian women. I've also been invited to those private parties in Las Palmas where the music was blasting and everybody was falling down drunk...a lot of fun.

El Polo says on Aug 7, 2008, 11:28: I personally have never been to MDE, but from my experience, private clubs where someones home has been remodel are nothing similar to a "lounge" enviroment which the OP is referring to. I met a cachaco last time in CTG through my cousins, cool guy. We were all at a bar by el Exito and invited him over to the pueblo. The following day he showed up, and we went to one of those "private parties" needless to say he had the time of his life. The costeñas girls would not let this guy sit down. He kept asking us "when is the next party" all night. jeje...cachaco rumbero.
