Medellin hotels

Was planning on checking out Medellin early next year, but turns out I have a bunch of vacation days to burn before the end of the year, so I will heading down in 2 weeks for a few days , a couple of quick questions:

Hotels - where to stay where I can walk to restaurants(and nightlife & music).
(I am a Gringo that speaks limited Spanish)Budget would be in the $75-$120 range.

Taxi from airport - how much? how long does it take?

Close in neghborhoods to check out, looking for safe area that has most everything in walking distance. I want to compare purchasing apartment in Medellin vs Panama City(if you are familar with PC I have been looking in the San Fransisco and Cangrejo districts)budget is under 100K

Thanks.

Holiday Inn Express
and
Novelty Suites Hotel

are both stylish, within walking distance of numerous bars/restaurants, safely situated in a abeautiful, upscale neighborhood, have English-speaking staff, grea tviews, and cost approx $70/night.

We have a newly renovated 3 bed room two floor penthouse apt. in Poblado the best neighborhood in Medellin
Rooms are from $50 to $80 close to everything a gringo could want.
We can arrange a bi lingual taxi from the airport about 20-30 mins. to apt. 45-50,000 pesos
Check out the webpage http://zona-viva.tripod.com/index.html
Have fun

Hey CDY - Since you're 99.9% English speaker and gringo, stay in the poblado area although rather "americanized" this is your best shot if you're new to Medellin but do not assume that's the vibe all over Medallo. I was in Poblado for a few days and moved down to calle 70 (or carretera?),was at the portal de la 70 hotel and another fine hotel, think it was called esigma, a block away from the 70 calle. There's also a metro station near those two hotels which I can not believe I dont recall its name at the moment. The latter area is more if you know some Spanish as it's more than to earth vibe than el poblado area. Have fun~. An advice, make sure you somewhat "know" the women you befriend & don't get up and dance/mingle & leave your drink unattended. Cheers

Please enjoy while you can. Please do so!

only hotel i had ever stayed in while in medellin, was the hotel nutibarra. a pretty good hotel, in the old school sense. about 60 yrs old, and polished marble all over the place. we got a 1 br with the living room/bar for around $81, and that was with the complimentary flowers and champagne. but then again, that was about 3 yrs ago, so not sure what the rates are now.
