Although I will say the eggs were amazing. Almost like the chickens were living in a alfalfa field. So good.
The meat I had in a big mac had to be the left overs from from a science experiment gone bad.
I tried two different steaks and both were tough.
The milk tasted like goats milk. I liked it.
I really wanted to have sushi, but why would I go all the way to Colombia and order sushi? So, wanting fish, I went with the salmon. Not good. Over cooked and bland. Idiot question: is salmon only native to the colder waters of the pacific? So, was that salmon flown in from the USA?
I did have some great food too. One day there was a buffet at the hotel and they had the rinds (sp?) of pork. They had rice and put beans on top of the rice. There were some funky looking black sausages that tasted like burnt salami.
When I ordered a Cosmo, I got a slurpy.
All in all, I liked the food because it seemed to leave out all the "chemicals" that our US food sources try to kill our population with. And for what? Money? So sad. I will take the Colombian food any day.

mranderson says on Jan 12, 2008, 21:45: I actually gained wieght while I was there on vacation from the big portions of food I was eating. Since living here though I have lost wieght due to all the walking, not the food. Although I think all the empanadas and meat pastels are deap fried which I believe isn't too healthy. Seems almost everything here is fried in oil. I always thought that everyone was so skinny because they eat more fruit and walk a lot.

Robert Jorge says on Jan 13, 2008, 00:08: I lost 10 pounds each time I was in Colombia. The first trip, 10 lbs. in 10 days. I attribute it to the different diet, living in stifling hot conditions, walking several miles a day, and the elevation. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. thur says on Jan 13, 2008, 03:49: I don't seem to gain weight, even though I eat a lot more (really... a _lot_ more) while I'm there. I contribute it to having to walk more and the elevation (Bogotá, for the record) which must have _some_ effect, I think. - www.pbase.com/thur 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

lpdiver says on Jan 13, 2008, 14:20: I have seen quite a few chubby paisas. It depends on where you hang out. I just have no seen the really really enourmous people in Colombia. I think walking has a lot to do with it. Also the higher elevations as the lower the oxygen levels in the blood. This lowers appetite. "cook some rice!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
