North of Medellin through the tunnel is Santa Fe de Antioquia ,a lovely colonial town about 1 hour from Medellin with lots of accomodation of different quality.
In Oriente,about 40 minutes from Medellin are many decent hotels around Rio Negro airport,some are quite charming and reasonble priced.

Brians you may be right, but the room rates will be doubled if not more and the rooks that are available will be crap. I like the Oriente thingbecasue it will give us some place else to see. My in-laws have never been to Medellin and have always planned on going for the past 55 years , but something always came up. Now the duitful son in law checks in.
