The previous two posts were eye openers... which leads me to ask...
Medellin... Eterna Primavera or Pollution?
The Weather, when it is not eternal rain, is true spring.. which is good...
If you are living up high on the hills of El Poblado... you should not smell the pollution...
But, if you live in other "modest" areas estrato 3... will the smell of pollution kill you like it does when you are on Calle 33?
Your thoughts?

minina says on Jul 27, 2008, 08:54: It depends where you live, if you live in an area which is mostly residential you shouldn't have any problem. If you live in an area where there are some factories and major traffic, pollution is gonna be a problem. Anyway I don't know why people here complain so much about pollution in Medellin being that pollution in US cities is much worse, and Medellin is a very green city, surrounded by mountains and full of green areas and trees. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

august says on Jul 28, 2008, 08:30: Whoa, Medellín a green city? Even if the city sometimes looks green - there are the occasional trees - the city itself is generally an exhaust laden, grimy concrete and adobe jungle. US cities can be grimy, that´s true, but I can honestly say I have never encountered anything like the amount of blue/black smoke that is unflinchingly and regularly farted out of buses and motos in Medellín. I´ve got plenty of love for the city, but the place will never be a huge tourist draw until it cleans up the air - especially in the Centro. If anything, when you´re on vacay, don´t you at least want to be able to take a deep breath of air and say "Ah, how choice was that? I´m never going back to work." Not in this town man. Gotta hold your breath and run across the street instead.

Mononoke28 says on Jul 28, 2008, 08:46: Back in the 70s and 80s Medellín didn't have as much pollution and the weather was perfect, upper 70s, lower 80s all the time with average rain fall. Things have CHAAAANGED big time with all the cars, buses, bikes and dirt they have now in downtown Medellín and it is a freaking cauldron. It's unbelievably hot compared to the Medellín I knew while growing up in Colombia. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
