Medellin business idea

Cidy really wants me to move to Medellin, but I need to work. I really don't want to work for anybody so was thinking of starting a business. I have some start up capital but not a lot. I was thinking of a laser hair removal studio. Last time I was there I saw a real need for this type of service. However, I don't know what is involved in starting a business in Colombia. Thanks for your help.

To start up a business one has to be over 21. Sorry. Maybe you could start it in Cidy´s name?

A lot of that business would happen in the evening... in the dark, after the street lights come on, so that wouldn't work for you either...

I have some used lasers real cheap for sale. They are made by Schick and Gillete. PM me for details.

At least many people here realize that the only choice they have for work is starting a business.

could do beds, laser, massage, nutrition, the little zen relaxing bit...like those yuppie wellness centers in LA..but better put it in a good area because i would have a hard time seeing anyone but the well-off frequent a place like that

I have no idea what that means.

In any case, all I was pointing out is that since you're afraid to go outside at night because it's so scary, you obviously need a business that operates only during school hours.

Really? When you were in the middle of tourist central in Bogota and you posted, "... I am a little scared to go out at night..." I guess I misunderstood what you really meant. My mistake. LOL

No joke, no shot. Veterans of business have lost tons of cash here. And they had ideas and experience.

Lazer hair removal just might work. I like the idea.

A tanning bed salon in Colombia would be a tougher business than a freezer store in Point Barrow, Alaska. Colombianas try to avoid the sun. They don't want to get darker. Ever see all the women walking around with umbrellas when it isn't raining. At least these were my observations in Villavo.

Italian for eggplant "melanzana" pronounced "mool een YONE" or in slang just mulie/moolie. It's italian racist slang for african american.

go to the Camara de Comercio downtown and they will set you up with a legal entity quickly and cheaply.

I did that in '02 and still have it - there's a small annual renewal fee.

I was on a temporal visa at the time that I got from working as an English teacher.

When I went to renew (having just married) and to get the conyuge visa, they scolded me for registering the business before I had permission. So be sure to find out what the rules are on that before actually registering it.

They let me off though and I got the business name put on my visa as my employer, thus legally freeing myself to work for myself.

Now, several years later, I have my permanent resident visa, still married, and the lawyer I hired to renew last time convinced the visa people that since the business was of indefinite duration, so should be the visa. And they agreed. Good stuff.
