I want to stay in a hotel in or near the La 70 neighborhood near the Estadio metro station, but I heard they are tearing up and replacing all the sidewalks in that area (apparently because of the upcoming S. American Games in March 2010). Can any of you confirm that? I can't believe the whole neighborhood is this way. I don't want to be in a construction zone during my stay. thanks!

Papi de Alejo says on Oct 13, 2009, 13:49: They are torn up but walkable. I stayed a block from there this past weekend; not particularly unpleasant. Live simply... Love generously... Care deeply... Speak kindly... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

"this may seem a strange post but it is not...when in colombia men need to be aware that colombia women may try to be seductive and entice a travelling gringo to have sex with them..to be forewarned is to be forearmed..." -- pow wow 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

jelsaad says on Oct 13, 2009, 22:40: Maynard -- Why not stay in the Laureles neighborhood, right off La 70? It's quiet, walkable, safe/upscale and has many hotels significantly cheaper than Poblado. Many parts of Laureles are a 10-15 minute walk from the Estadio metro station;otherwise, there are plenty of buses & cabs.

kenblanquito says on Oct 14, 2009, 06:48: Yes, Laureles is a decent area not too far from the 70 and you will not pay El Poblado prices.

maynard7 says on Oct 14, 2009, 11:39: I looked in the Laureles neighborhood, too, but I was attracted to La 70 because there were many hotels that were priced around 70.000. I figured I would go to one of the hotels to look at a room, and if I didn't like it, I could easily walk to others and check them out before paying. If you know of a street in Laureles that I should concentrate on (or a major intersection even better), please let me know. I will start investigating that area too. Thank you!
