The mayor of Cali announced that mixed groups of police and military will patrol five comunas to try to stop a recent wave of violence. There is even talk of setting up semipermanent military camps in places like Aguablanca.

Not quite what it said. Would on apply to selected barrios(comunas) 6, 8, 13, 14 y 15. Joint effort between the police and military

i think he is referring to your misleading title, which would suggest all of Cali is under militarization......

I read the article in Spanish. Your post title/heading was very misleading and I was NOT confused nor was Sr. Clavo.
"confused."???? I don't think so

Atrevido, i think what they meant by misleading was saying in the title that Cali has been militarized, giving the impression of the whole city being under military control, instead of, in actuality, just some joint patrols being carried in only 5 of Cali's some 150 barrios, but if you think it is accurate, so be it.

Comuna 11 of Cali for example contains twenty one barrios.
So? Cumuna 11 was never mentioned in the article. I will raise you Comuna 2 which has twenty-five barrios. Also I would never have guessed the article was in Spanish-thanks for the tip

Amigo, I really believe you are not sure if you should scratch your watch or wind your ass! You are a bore, and a very dull one at that. If I had wanted to talk to somebody with your personality, I would be at the damn pet store talking to the parrot. To quote Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

i've spent 5 months in Colombia, total, 5 months in Venezuela (which is more dangerous) , 6 in T&T (which is as dangerous as Colombia) and about another 4 in Peru, Honduras and Guatemala, and my ass has still not been bitten.

I stay away from those barrios, and i always avoid these places at night

Another guy I know, on the other hand, spent 2 weeks with his buddy who's wife was in a cartel family in Mexico, had a police or military stick a M-16 down his throat when he was there for only 2 weeks, amongst other tonterias..

Maybe I am tempting fate when I say I am a smarter traveller than most (usually have personal guides). Maybe I've just been lucky.

Still, I think by far the most dangerous thing you do here is drive on the autopistas. This scares the shit out of me, frankly.

I think I just temptted fate. Guns scare me. Only had one pointed at mo in the past.

Still think the driving is most scary and dangerous part.

Not suprised at comunas 13,14,15 larges amount of Barrios there are no go areas even for the police, unless en force. With regards to comuna 8 that does suprise me, I go into that comuna nearly every day. I did hear that Villacolombia was problematic at present which is within that comuna, but the majority there are really good popular barrios.
