"Maximum stay" from the airline?

I just bought a one way ticket from Miami to Bogota. One of the conditions of the ticket is that my "maximum stay is 2 months." How is this implemented if I just bought a one way ticket? I could understand applying the rule to a round trip but I don't see how they could enforce such a limit on a one way ticket purchase.

I've flown several times on a one-way ticket and encountered no problems.

Do you have a visa?

I believe DAS can do anything they want. I'd say a one months Minimum Wage fine would be minimum, thats about what,, $250? Some posters seem to have had good luck getting free extensions (over stays) if it's a few days. REMEMBER if you stay past the dates given you MUST go to DAS prior to going to the airport. Oh,, you don't need to,, but they'll take you to the airport office and you might miss your flight. Maybe they are getting kinder and gentler?

BTW: The maximum stay is determined by DAS when they stamp your passport upon your entry at the airport,, NOT the airline.

ok, I was just wondering how the airline would have had any authority on a one way flight. I have my contrasena, the cedula is processing.

It bothers me that you think an airline has "authority".

In Colombia propina is everything, you can get a cedular Colombiano for a price.

I didn't think they had the authority or ability to do anything about my stay, that's why I asked to make sure rather than sit over there and get surprised somehow after two months.

Ah, I see. My apologies Enrique. I would attribute that to an over zealous ticket agent - not unlike several sabelotodos on this board.

Gator says on Mar 14, 2008, 21:56:

The airline do not, but what happens when you renew? DAS will want to see that return ticket or other ticket out of Colombia. Perhaps it means you had two months to USE the ticket-if you got a sale price, one way or not, it could expire after two months if not used.

You won't get surprised. DAS will put a stamp like this in your passport book. It probably won't say 90 days but you should LOOK.

PS: I believe DAS now has a complete up and running computer system. I believe the system shows them ALL the dates you have entered and exited.

Yes, DAS can track all international departures and entrances, even for Colombian Nationals(Mrs. Gator) and permanent residents(Gator).

If you have a cedula you do not need a ticket out.

I've extended tourists visas 5 times in the last year without showing a ticket out (though i've been asked in the past for one). I've also been refused to board a plane by Copa airlines without first purchasing an onward ticket. Colombian law is you have to have a ticket out to visit as a tourist. They never check at the airport --- but if they were, and you were denied entry it would be the airlines responsibility to get you out. That it why some airlines check.

Nevertheless, the question here is from someone with a visa and cedula and thus they don't need an onward ticket.

I've never been asked for a return ticket, never, never, never, coming in or going out.

However, DAS always asked for a copy of the ticket when a 30 day extension was requested.

Mid last year DAS in Armenia did not require a copy of the ticket as part of the extension paperwork.

Remember,, DAS can have different requirements in different offices.

while things here tend to vary place to place, and person to person, I can say for sure that this is ridiculous and someone was scamming you.
