A massive shipment of cocaine worth an estimated $100 million was seized by police in eastern Mexico Tuesday, the nation's Defense Department announced.
It said 5-1/2 tons of the narcotic was aboard a cargo flight from Venezuela. The co-pilot and two men from another plane, who apparently were planning to fly the cocaine to its next destination, were arrested. Venezuela has become a key corridor for narcotics shipments, according to a State Department report last month, especially since leftist President Hugo Chavez halted cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Miguel says on Apr 13, 2006, 11:30: Neonovo I do appreciate your post, but it makes me wonder how many of our posters take the time to read Colombian newspapers online. This story is two days old. While I won't say I am "amazed", I find it curious that whoever wants updated information about colombia does not check out the available information online. If we have posters that are weak in Spanish, they simply can access the newspapers through Google and choose the (shitty) translation option. I was very surprised that no one commented on the alleged Farc bombing of the buses in Bogotá last week right after it happened. Last week in Barranquilla there was an interesting story in EL HERALDO (Barranquilla) about the ex-paracos and the sudden increase in crime there, and then a follow-up about the government allocating 100 addtional policemen and high technology to reduce crime in a city that has traditionally been much safer that other big cities in colombia.
