MARRRYING A COLOMBIAN IN PANAMA

I am living on my sailboat in Panama now with my Colombian girlfriend who I met in San Andres. We plan to get married this fall, but she went to the Colombian Consulate in Colon today and it was so complicated that even the boss said it could be easier to get married in Panama. We then plan to sail to Cartegena for Christmass a New Year and then to the Cayman Islands were she wants to work. She speaks English along with my daily lessons which she will need to get a job there. One of the web sites I went to said that Colombians are permittted 90 days without a Visa but as an American, I can live there forever if I want to and donnot need a visa to go there on a boat.

The question is would it be easier to get married in Colombia (probably not), Panama or the Cayman Islands? I have (nor does she) any desire to ever go to the States.

The main man at the Colombian Consulate in Colon did not even know where the Cayman Islands are and said she needed a visa to go there WHICH IS WRONG if you go to the Cayman Islands web site. I donnot trust anything that comes out of the mouth of anybody from DAS or the Consulates.

Thanks,
Jerry

Don't Bet On It... The Cayman Islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom.
The following nationalities can enter without a visa for a stay of up to one month which can be extended. You will need either a passport or proof of U.S Citizenship-stay is limited to 6 months. As long as you are in Panama visit the BRITISH EMBASSY since where you want to go, the Caymans, is still a Crown Colony.

Andorra Antigua and Barbuda Argentina Australia Austria Bahamas, The Barbados Belgium Belize Botswana Brazil Brunei Chile Costa Rica Cyprus Denmark Dominica El Salvador Finland France Germany Greece Grenada Guatemala Iceland Irish Republic Israel Italy Jamaica Japan Kiribati Lesotho Liechtenstein Luxembourg Malawi Malaysia Malta Mexico Monaco Namibia Nauru Netherlands New Zealand Norway Panama Portugal Samoa San Merino Seychelles Singapore Solomon Is. South Africa Spain St Kitts and Nevis St Lucia St Vincent and the Grenadines Swaziland Sweden Switzerland Tonga Trinidad Tuvalu Vanuatu Venezuela Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, I do NOT see Colombia in this list
so ALL other nationalities require a visa, which can get from a British embassy or consulate.

Yes, you can get married in the Cayman Islands during your "vacation!" There is no blood test necessary in these islands, but prerequisites include: completion of application forms, photo identification such as passport or birth certificate and driver’s license, relevant documentation of regarding previous marriages (either divorce or death certificates) if applicable, and also Cayman Islands international embarkation/disembarkation card. There is no need to send documentation in advance as it is necessary to see all originals, which can be presented on your arrival. All marriages must be attended by a local registered marriage officer and by two other witnesses

"Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" .

Easy If you want to avoid all the nonsense and confusion, just get married in San Andres Island, which is part of Colombia. However, because they are trying to attract tourists, its really easy to get married there and no red-tape. Since its part of Colombia, she won't need any visa whatsoever to go there, and you will need the same thing you need to go to Colombia. Since you got a boat anyways, just sail over there and get married. I heard its beautiful too!
