Marriage in Poland

I am a colombian citizen currently under a uk student visa and have decided to marry my Polish grilfriend. I have been looking in the internet to try and get some inormation about how to marry her in Poland but can't get any. Does anyone know what is the procedure?

Aks you NOvia Since your novia is Polish, SHE should know

Semper Fidelis !

Why would she know? There can't be too many weddings in Poland where the bridegroom is a Colombian national. imho, she probably knows just about as much about it as he does.

Besides what if he wants to figure out logistics before popping the question?

OP, I'm sorry I can't help you, but good luck!

some info Hi Panda

I'm colombian and I got married here in Poland.

If it's just a civil wedding it's much easier. If it's a catholic wedding it gets more complicated because you have to be here to take the curso pre-matrimonial which takes about 3 months (and from what i've heard is seriously not fun - in Colombia it's just a weekend course).

We only had a civil wedding and did the religious part in Colombia.

This is what I needed:

-Registro civil de Nacimiento - and a sworn translation into polish (you can get the translation done very easily here in poland)

-Passport

-A visa to be in Poland

-Certificado de solteria: someone has to get this for you in Colombia at the notarĂa - . Basically it's a document that states that you aren't and haven't been married (if you're divorced or a widow you have to show those certificates too). This also needs to be translated into polish by a sworn translator.

-Meldunek (it's a kind of registration which says where you are staying in Poland - your girlfriend should know about this, she can register you at her place here in poland)

- You have to take these documents at least 1 month before the wedding date to the Urzad stanu cywilnego - registraduria- (your girlfriend should know what this is). You need to go there personally because you have to sign some papers.

It's really not as complicated as it sounds.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I'll be dammed. I saw the original post and I thought, they're never going to find someone who can help them. Same day service too.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

UTC Ditto...somedays, the internet is a wonderful thing.

Marriage in UK To simplify things you might be able to get married in the UK, the paperwork is less complicated. However you as a temp. resident need to apply for a special leave to do so.

Thank you Hey Julivelez
First of all, thank you very much for the information given.
May I ask you another question? did it make any difference in terms of travelling around an living in other countries in the EU after you married in Poland?
Many thanks and God bless

ronald1168 says on Sep 30, 2005, 05:09:

Travel within the EU memberstates after marriage After marriage the spouse of an EU Citizen (in this case Poland) the 3rd national Spouse shares the right of free movement within the EU member states.

Some EU states will still demand a Visa for Colombian nationals but this visa is issued free of charge and through a accelerated procedure. They can only refuse such Visa on the basis of national security.
