Marriage for citizenship

I am american citizen looking to become colombian citizen. Are there not girls who will pay to get married to get USA citizenship? What is the time process involved for getting citizenship after marriage.

And please save the "why the hell would you want to be a citizen here" posts. Thanks

'And please save the "why the hell would you want to be a citizen here" posts.'

It's so incomparably valid a question that it should be asked repeatedly.

And I'm sure the squalid practice of contracting a bogus marriage is as illegal in Colombia as it is in the US or the UK.

And not to be encouraged.

There was a crackdown a while back on mainland Colombians who did just that to gain residency status on San Andres. A foreigner married to a Colombian can receive a "permanent resident visa" after three years but "citizenship" is a long long road.

Why bother posting?

Why not? I've a few moments to kill while waiting to go out to a barbecue.

Or perhaps I proactively wanted to point out the dubious nature of your query.

Good luck finding that one-armed man!

Poker, you should not do it for free. You'd be offered at least 15K USD for it.

You got it right, poker. She must pay.
If she cries about not having money, offer her to do a "mule job" a couple of time in exchange. She will have her Visa anyway, and that would get you even more cash.

¡CUIDADO! Remember what Sir Walter Scott wrote, "Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive!"

Post was a little confusing. Does he mean he wants to be a Colombian citizen?

You must be married to a Colombian national for a minimum of three years then you can apply for permanent residence through MRE, Bogotá. After two years as a married resident OR five years as a resident you can apply for citizenship. I decided to forgo the right to vote or be an officer in the military and just stick with permanent residence.

Ah, Colombian citizenship-it ain't like the USA process:

Hola!

I think Americans do not need to pay to marry Colombians. Being a nice guy works. If you think money is the issue, then save your money to make her happy with your kindness. Build a home there together, but you can start smaller. Treat her nice and show your interest in her family and culture. It is not an issue of paying money, but acting nicely with or without spending money.

I have been to Colombia 13 times, and I bring nice little gifts from the USA that are unavailable in Colombia. First start off by willing to listen to her wishes. It is a good idea to bring nice gifts for her family too. I learned women like Victoria Secret body lotion in Colombia. Bringing $1 Aspirin is a thoughtful gift. When I 1st discovered my GF had a computer that was practicely DEAD, I got her a new machine even better than mine, so we could communicate better via the internet. Remember, communication is the key!

A couple of men in FLA got caught in Colombiana/US citizenship fraud, where the Colombiana paid $ upon residency(I am sure that year working at Subway for free sucked). Well, All went to prison, in FLA...FOR FRAUD!!!!

I am sure, with Colombia's more "efficient judiciary system" They probably have similar sentencing guidelines, since what you are proposing is FRAUD!!!! I don't care whether the country is Ghana, Syria, Camaroon, or Colombia, if somebody request citizenship, the respective governments want them to not go about it in a fraudulent manner.

My wife, before I came along, over the course of 10 years, had one Colombian/American boyfriend, based out of Miami steal her identity to help him mule. Another American gringo showed up, off and on, in Bogota, over the course of 2 years, promising her the world, while having a senorita in Orlando he was married to; and another Canadian man, who was in Colombia on business for 6 months told her she was his "world" , supposedly wanting to take her to Canada, then dissappeared back to Canada one day; no explanation or good bye.

What I am getting at is NICE Colombianas put of with alot of SHIT from gringos with the hopes of something better in their life. You are not going to find a long line of Colombianas outside your door, just because you are an American with money to burn, trying to buy Colombian citizenship. They want somebody that is going to treat them with respect and some sort of commitment beyond the citizenship requirements.

If you do find that "special girl" chances are she is probably has motives of her own, that will propbably involve parting you from more than just your money. Remember, you may get a lot more than you bargained for. What are you going to do? go to the Police and say, "hey! I married this woman for citizenship, but she and her Colombiano stole my money! my identity!, and all my chit!! HELP!!!"- Better yet, sing that one to the US consulate, as you limb back home.. I am sure they will be there with open arms.

Anyway, good luck with your endeavors!!!

You must be MARRIED to a Colombian national for a MINIMUM of three years ONLY then you can apply for permanent residence through MRE, Bogotá. After two years as a MARRIED resident OR five years as a PERMANENT resident you can apply for citizenship.

Marry a Colombiana then apply through MRE for a spouse visa. This process is fairly quick if you have all the required paperwork(check any Colombian Consulate the in the USA or, if your Spanish is up to it, MRE's site or do a search on this site).

After you obtain the visa then you have 15 days to go to a DAS office and apply for a Cédula de Extranjia (foreign ID card) as opposed to a Cédula de Ciudadanía (Colombian citizenship), This is the only picture ID that is used country wide in Colombia.

This entire process can be done through a Colombian Consulate in the USA.
