Mark Walberg and Leonardo DiCaprio To Ship Cocaine To Miami: The Movie

Lights, Camera, Action!

Cocaine Cowboys the movie.....

It looks like Hollywood is discovering Colombia, expect to see cameras rolling up in them poor hillside barrios in Medellin.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

"Mark Wahlberg and Leonardo DiCaprio to star in Cocaine Cowboys, the story of an injured Vietnam war veteran who became involved in New York's gang wars in the 70s and dealt billions of dollars worth of cocaine for the Medellín drugs cartel in Miami. He then spent 10 years in prison.

The film will be written by former Rolling Stone journalist Evan Wright, based on a book he is writing which is due to be published in 2009. Hancock director Peter Berg is attached to the project."

Cocaine Cowboys Documentary Soon To Be Turned Into a Hollywood Movie.

Interesting how all of the sudden everyone in Hollywood seems to be interested in Colombian themed movies, even if they are all basically about cocaine and Pablo Escobar. This is how things work in Hollywood, someone makes a superhero movie, everyone else wants to make a superhero movie, and another, and another, and the Dark Knight was the BEST OF 'EM ALL!

See you all at the movies.

Great, another shitty Hollywood movie that will only help to reinforce negative stereotypes about Colombia!

This project has been kicking around for quite some time. I'm glad to see Wright has been hired, and it appears it's finally going forward. Unfortunately there's no plans at this time to do any shooting in Colombia.

Cheers,
Terry

Simon, since when are cold hard facts a, "negative stereotype" that should be ignored?

Simon says on Jul 26, 2008, 13:49:

So why don't they make movie after movie about all the junkies who consume illegal drugs in the US and Europe? Those are "cold hard facts" too, right?

"... So why don't they make movie after movie about all the junkies who consume illegal drugs in the US and Europe?..."

Are you serious? There have been COUNTLESS movies and television shows produced in North America and Europe that centre around illegal drugs. It's a more popular subject now than it ever was! Turn on your television or wander through a video rental store...

Some Colombians have to stop being so defensive about drugs and their place in Colombia's history and present day reality. Cocaine gave Colombia a rightfully deserved reputation and some of the richest, most powerful criminals of the 20th century. Attempts to ignore this fact and begging people to forget about it is ridiculous. It's the real world. Get over it...

Cheers,
Terry

But drugs is not solely a present day reality in Colombia.

the point is that people already know a lot about this subject and I guess Colombians would like to show the rest of the people that Colombia is not only about drugs.

21 Grams, not a heavy drug movie, but...

The complex interconnected story of how the lives of a former "drug addict" and single mother, Christine (Naomi Watts), a terminally ill mathematics professor, Paul (Sean Penn), and a spiritual ex-convict, Jack (Benicio Del Toro), intersect after a car accident. Clea Duvall co-stars in this gritty drama that's ultimately about hope and redemption.

Benicio Del Toro is KING!

He was born to play Pablo Escobar!

As of now, Javier Bardem has been approached to play Escobar. I think Benecio Del Toro will be a better choice for Killing Pablo.

Joe Carnahan has the greenlight to make Killing Pablo but believe he is shooting another picture beforehand, but I suggest he reconsider because of the other Pablo Escobar movie being produced by Oliver Stone.

He should have won it for Goodfellas. It was more a lifetime achievment award for being overlooked so often. BTW, I agree, Del Toro would be a better choice for Pablo than Bardem.

Marty should have taken the Oscar home for Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, or Goodfellas, even Casino and/or Mean Streets, but NOT for The Departed a remake of the BEST MOVIE of 2002, "Infernal Affairs" from Hong Kong.

He won an oscar for a remake that was very much the same movie only in English.
