Maple syrup in Bogota?

I looked everywhere imaginable and can't find maple syrup anywhere in Bogota.

I'm not talking about corn syrup falsely labeled maple, which is everywhere, but real maple syrup.

Anyone know where I can find some of this delicious treat?

Uhmm... can you try to find maple flavored extract or vanilla extract? If you can find either one try making it like this, it won't be as thick as you're used to but it's a great substitute, trust me.

1 cup of white granulated sugar
1 cup of either dark brown or light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon of the extract (either maple or vanilla)
2 teaspoons of cornstarch (optional for thickness)
1 tablespoon of butter (optional for that buttery taste)

Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and then add the extract.

I've checked several Carulla's to no avail - but maybe I didn't happen by on the right day when the stars were aligned.

Aunt Jemima is not maple syrup though in Colombia it is often labeled or passed off as such.

my God, every supermarket I go into has Aunt Jemima's. Is this not good enough?

Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

I see that there are very few real people here who grew up in Sugaring country. I have sugared down many times. There is NO comparison between Aunt Jemima and the real thing. The price most of all. Real Grade A used to cost about $75 USD a gal.
The cross street is somewhere around Calle 90. It has their own parking lot. Let me know what you find. I haven't had real Maple syrup in years.

Aunt Jemima is crap, it's corn syrup, not maple, doesn't taste even 1% as good.

I have seen real maple syrup at Exito and Carrefour, it's expensive though.

Once you go maple, you won't go back. Ever.

There is no comparison.

I always bring my own supply from some other country - but I am running out in just a few days.

Maple is "arce" in spanish...

Camp's is my preferred brand of maple syrup. It's expensive enough in Canada where it's a domestic product, anywhere else it's a real indulgence. It's hard to find in NYC and harder to find in Colombia. The next visit I get from Canada I'm going to beg them to pack some.

Oddly, the cheapest maple syrup I have found is in Australia. A litre of Canadian Grade A is around $4 US.

Real pure maple syrup has increased in price in the eeuu,
by about 30 % in the past year.

Well...are there any maple TREES in Colombia?
I wouldn't think so, but...

Never go back. ever. It is expensive, but well worth it. If I were going anytime soon I'd offer to take some down to you, but alas it will be awhile.
