PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post |
I am planning my first trip to Manizales soon. Anybody know the city, have any thoughts on it, as far as things to see and do, places to stay, what the people are like there? Thanks for any feedback.

la campiña says on Sep 24, 2007, 19:16: well, its a great part of colombia , coffee country, only passed through it but stayed in Pereira nice climate great people, also close to Armenia beautifull views especialy Salento.Close to Nevada del ruiz, a must if close breathtaking views and a breath taking climb mas o menos 5100 m, snow capped mountain that I have stood on and also seen the peak poking out of the clouds when flying to cartegena, go there now because global warming is melting the ice. Also close to santa rosa de cabal, y san vicente eco termales, hot thermal springs, great breakfast, a bowl of HOT chocolate with a lump of salty cheese inside. Fantastic part of the world, and I'm not a travel writer, do it now ! enjoy

cali373 says on Sep 24, 2007, 20:19: "la campiña" seems to be all over the place. Pereira and Manizales are an hour and half to two hours apart. Los termales (hotsprings) are in Santa Rosa, which is about 30-45 minutes from Pereira. I never went to termales during the day time. Only at night and my family and I rented a micro for about $100,000 pesos the night. considering that it seats 12, that is not a bad deal. That doe snot include entrance, which is about 12,000 a person or maybe $8,000. Smile if you are a thinker! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

la campiña says on Sep 24, 2007, 20:22: well christo bald dog, youve just hit the jackpot, ten days free adventure running through the Darien pass but you cant talk to the farc, that gives you big minus points, if you make this simple task you will get 40 years free minutes with movistar. god I envey you, dont forget we are all behind you, but in my experience you might need a tube or two of ' bengay' just a friendly word of advice, but wwoooww go for it brother, ( let me know )

la campiña says on Sep 24, 2007, 21:54: the FARC are everywhere, but you can call the road police, highway police, policia de carreteras ( excuse my spanish) for information. I recently visited Armenia 1 week ago and was stopped 4 times, 1 time ,cali armenia, 2nd armenia salento and the same on the reverse trip, Now, I've have a problem with this because everytime I am on a bus and after 5 years of travelling its not a coincidence, and it's not only colombia ( peru and ecuador the same) maybe because i have my colombian wife with me I get searched, I am a "normal" looking placid guy, pero obviomente a stranger, short grey hair ( the distiguished look como james bond ha ha and green eyes( sin aguardiente mas brillante ha) anyway this story is not about my vanity ! A bus of 20 colombianos and ( me) one extranjero( I'm english not a gringo but anyway whats the diference to THEM ha the others ja je) so I'm searched at gun point and my new cedular NOT my contraseña BUT NEW CEDULAR ( how many years has it taken me to get that piece of ' KIN plastic) sorry . but anyway, ha I raised a fuss, didnt realy want to get searched NYPD style limbs splayed out in all directions like a mafioso bandido, but that close to semi automatic weapons( or automatic , what the fuck is the diference they still kill you or is one faster than the other, no idea and to be honest I would rather not know) I sort of complied with the sort of actitude bulls have when they enter the arena. Anyway sarcasticly I threw myself against the side of the bus as a joke, full on star shape like the german ( my grandfather was german so no bad vibes here )war films I saw as a young boy, well the poor colombian lad who had been drafted and obviuosly would rather be smooching in a salsa bar in some remote pueblito with his long time childhood romance was a little taken aback when I lurched sideways when he touched my leg, no idea what happened next but maybe he had no youthfull heart throb, but anyway , have you ever heard 4 semi automatic weapons getting "cocked at the same time 1 metre from death from your head at the same time, I have) It's like when you win a pinball game on the promenade at brighton, or someone tells a classic joke that goes down to well at your local OAP club ( false teeth everywhere chattering regardless ) but this time it was a little more serious. However I turned round and faced 100 FARC members screaming at me 007 james bond get down) no not really, it came to pass they were very embarrassed thanked me for my time and said farewell, your turn
