Manizales Trip

I am thinking of going to visit Manizales this year. Anyone have any comments/suggestions about the city? Also, can someone recommend a good hotel there?

JR...do a google search on "Manizales hotels" on the left column of your screen "Search this site", and then pull up the threads about Manizales...lots of good info already posted is there....Manizales is a great city...but as always, use common sense....i plan on living there, and flying to work in CTG during the week......there are 1 or 2 PBHers already living there, i believe, although i dont remember their names.....

Manizales I just spent 3 months there. A wonderful small city. Try the Hotel Regines for economy and comfort. There is a Mountain House, several other decent hotels and a fellow by the name of Richard Dickerman also has apartments for rent in one of the best areas of the city. He runs a small dating agency called colombiacupido. Unfortunately you will not find much with a Google search and Manizales is well off the beaten path. I saw no more than a half dozen gringos while I was there. You can reach Dickerman at dickerman at une.net.co. He is a good source for information about Manizales as he has lived there for nearly four years. Have a great time. I did.

JR,
When are you planning to come to Manziales and how long are you expecting to stay? I have been living here since December 2006. As I live here, I haven't used the hotels much, but I can look into it for you. What kind of a budget are you looking at?

Someone posted a note about the Mountain House earlier...

Manizales a very nice city. We aren't too far from Nevado Ruiz. It's a nice destination for a day trip. There are hot springs in the area too. There is also an eco-park, Los Yarumos. They have an ice skating rink there and you can go rapelling there. As well, there are nice hiking paths there. El Recinto del Piensamento is also a nice place to visit. They have a mariposaria there.

As far as the night life goes... you can go up by Cable Plaza (la zona rosa). There are a couple of nice clubs there.
