Making International Calls from Colombia

When I was in Colombia in July. I tried to call to the US with my Sprint cellphone and also with my TIGO cellphone. When it became urgent, I went to a call center to make the call. What are the codes that have to be dialed so that a call can be made to the US?

If you have internet access you can make free calls to the US and Canada and few other countries.
Go to www.voipcheap.com .....download the program and calls to the US will be free.

0091 I Think

for example: 009 1 (213) 555-5555 to los Angeles

maybe that has changed or something?

I had the same problem with my Verizon Cell. I was in Bogota in October and I tried every way I could think of, to call back to the US in my Cell.. Nothing worked.

In my experience, calling from a land line (in Colombia and Europe), the North American code is "1", then you do the three digit area/city code, and your seven digit basic number.

Thank you all for your contributions.

Vischere, thank you for focusing on the real question.

Alezzz, this is what I was looking for. At some point, I thought that each cell company had their own code to access international lines. If 009 is the code for TIGO, then my question has been answered.
