Luxury cars boom in Colombia. Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes...

http://www.semana.com/noticias-print-edition/luxury-cars-boom-in-colom...

Who says the rich get richer and the poor get poorer only in the gool 'ol USA?

Luxury cars boom in Colombia. Incredibly enough, amidst the current financial crisis, Colombians are buying top quality cars like Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes Benz and BMW like never before. Four myths of this market have been put to rest.

But it is not all that bad... the poor can always "join" the patriotic anti-terrorist brigades in their Crusades in Irak and or Afghanistan, the mid-Magdalena, or the southern frontier...and if you have dual-citizenship, you can PICK!

Paz,
Neonovo.

This article is right on....and most cars and trucks over 250 MM are getting bllindaje....III to V....with additional items a la carte....ie 3 kgs of spike up nails out the back on switch (lose the spare and install the solenoids and hinge box) , almost everyone gets that now...at level III and up.

Large increase in replacement acrylic windows as well..as they begin to craze...

Hard foam tires...are also on the riise...in bogota as well...

Been to Bogota. I have seen the Beemers. But a Ferrari? You wouldn't be able to drive 5 kms without tearing the thing up. Even the major highways are full of serious potholes. At a minimum, it would be a VERY rough ride.

sorry GS... not sensational....just the truth (ok you're right it ain't the island (miami) or beverly hills for sure)...you can speak to whomever you like....just make sure they have at least some experience with blindaje...

yes, there are some of all the semi exotic cars in bogota...

RJ...no matter the road condition, those cars are there...

luckily only see those in bogota and not in Medellin which is great!
I drive a mazda 2 which in Medellin is equal to a mercedes in the states.
People are much more conservative in medellin. You dont need to flash your wealth here
and who wants to do that like the rat race in california.

usually when I see a convertible beemer here, audi, or expenive import I see a bogota license plate

As a gringo you should be trying to attract the least amount of attention as possible, not the most. There are tons of mazdas on the road, you won't stand out at all. Gringo in 1960's porsche? Yea that won't attract any unusual attention.

Jeff, try replacing a water pump in a '67 911 in Colombia. That would be a $2000 usd bill in the US. How many Porsche trained mechanics are in Colombia? And availability of parts? Sorry, not trying to flame, but ....

RJ, there is a huge Porsche club in many regions of Colombia...get on YouTube. Parts can be had and as a norm, definitely have to be resourceful if you have one. I have 2 now so I speak from experience, later 1 in Colombia, but I keep in touch with PCC/Pereira chapter.

Alright, I'll concede lamplighter - you would know better than me. Seriously ... Not being smart. I wouldn't want to tackle trying to have a vintage Porsche worked on by Porsche certified techs in Villavo. Getting a scooter worked on there would be daunting for me.

The 928 was cool. 5 litre V8. You can buy one for a song here in the US. But to fix one up costs a freaking fortune.
