Luis Fernando Montoya

I haven't seen mention here of the tragedy that fell upon Luis Fernando Montoya. He is the ex coach of the ONCE CALDES miracle futbol team that captured the hearts of all Colombians when they won the Copa Libertador. As I understand it the coach was out shopping with his wife and brother in Medellion when a purse snatcher shot him in the neck. He is now in the hospital in Medellion and will be a quadriplegic. He has received over 2000 messages. If you would like to email the coach, here is the email address.

I saw in the news that his wife and sister had taken a large sum of money out of an ATM, money they intended to use to buy presents for poor children. The robbers, upon seeing this large withdrawal, followed them to the house and the robbers tried to force themselves in to steal the money. Luis Fernando opened the door for his wife and sister and tried to resist the robbers, who then shot him in the neck. So far they've captured two men and two women, one of the women was the leader of this gang. I hope these scumbags get locked up for a very long time.

I think you were misinformed, Greg. I don't know anything about Medellin. I watched "La virgen de las sicarios" once. Does that count?

Seems the Paisas, so praised by Pablo and Utopia, were in on the terible shooting of a good man.

They are not very good looking either. Feo women.

OK, everyone, listen up, here's the scoop from Greg. If you go to Medellin you will be shot by an unattractive woman. So whatever you do, stay out! You can be like me and stay home and watch "La virgen de las sicarios".

Gun belonged to Medellin police officer!!! Medellin police officer's wife one of the women who shot a good man.

Strange how everyone here , few comment. Just like many well to do Colombians flee to the US with their money intact in offshore banks, instead of cleaning up their own mess.

Yes, you are right Greenday, Utopia claims to have married a great Paisa, with 3 kids, but posts on the internet all day. Last time someone did that was PeteE and maybe you may know what happened then.

Greg,

I find your comments to be completely xenophobic and bigoted! When someone is shot in New York City, does that mean all new yorkers are murderers or thieves? BTW, this happened in the town of Caldas, Antioquia, not Medellin.

Greg444 says on Dec 30, 2004, 11:01:

OK You must not have been to Caldas.
Caldas is part of Medellin, its just one end of town vs Centro vs Envigado. I have been to Caldas many times. Just like the Bronx or Queens is not part of NYC, but it is if you live there. Caldas is just 15 minutes in a taxi from Unicentro, its all thought of as Medellin, becasue it is.

BUT lets not hype Medellin. At least we have some factual info on Medellin, instead of Pablo's hype.
Most Medellin women want nothing to do with gringos, and there are many problems in Medellin as we can see.

Greg444 says on Jan 2, 2005, 15:37:

The news articles posted above speak fact, I did not write them. They are just some examples of life in Medellin. Not all flowers and roses.

I also disagree, the most Pasias do not want anything to do marrying gringo and leaving.
Paisas are polite.
Big difference from a polite women to a women marrying you and moving to the US.

Pablo, be careful do not let those agencies and translators run you around in circles!!! Those agencies do not have anything better looking then a 6 at best.

Several people on this board are married to paisas and live in the US. Geez, I wonder how we duped them into that? Greg, do you know Pablo? He says he has no idea who you are but here you are claiming he is running around with translators and agencies. Very strange. If you ask me, I think you are running a disinformation campaign. If the chicks are so much better in Cartagena or Cali, how come you aren't there?

Hunter says on Jan 3, 2005, 04:24:

utopiacowboy You are correct there are a number of people on this board and others, doing a disinformation campaign.

Their main reason is to stop foreigners going to Colombia, because they do not want to see foreign tourists there, spoiling their playground.

On a private board in early 2004 this was discussed, their plan was to tell everbody that anywhere outside Cartagena was unsafe, thus to try and keep the tourists in the Ctg area.

I left that board for that and other reasons, because there was no way I was going to play along. The funny part of it all is that if I played along my company would potentially increase its profits, seeing as it rents apts in Ctg to tourists, but not anywhere else in Colombia.

Tranquilo Greg,

To my knowledge I have never met you.

Sure the news article you pointed out was correct about a tragic shooting in Medellin but to use this as proof that this city is more dangerous than other cities is misleading and somewhat naive. I could find many newsarticles about muggings and murders in the States and claim that one particular city was very dangerous. One needs to be careful in any large city and Medellin is no exception.

Perhaps the reason why many Paisas aren't thrilled about leaving their city is that it's a wonderful place. Like what Cowboy pointed out though many have fallen in love with men and have left Colombia. Entiendes?

Is what Hunter said correct? Are you trying to shed a little disinformation?

Now where did I park my cab...Monica wants me to return home.

I think Montoya´s wife was pretty stupid taking out the money from the bank(7 million pesos) in cash, alone, in december, she should ask for a check or anything else.

Most of the cities in the world are dangerous but you must take your own precautions.

Pablo do you remember? only a couple years ago?
I know Medellin for over 7 years, Pablo's little walk from his apartment to the parque is a distorted view.

Pablo, how cute , to give yourself the moniker of Pablo Escobar.
I suppose if one live in a lousy city like Podunck, Oregon , you could find any city in Colombia interesting.

Chicken Little Greg, your social graces amaze me. I betcha make lots of friends.

Those that are following your "informative posts" about Medellin will simply acknowledge that your perception is somewhat different than others. Sure Medellin can be and is at times dangerous but like I said, many large cities are.

Your experiences with the Paisas are much different than mine and other posters. I feel sorry for you.

Nope, simply using a handle like pablo doesn't mean I am trying to emulate Escobar. What IS your problem?

How about giving it a rest now.
