I wonder what happened to Luis Montoya and the Paisas women who shot him? Did he recover?
MEDELLIN, Colombia (Ticker) - Police have detained four suspects following the armed robbery attempt that has left former Once Caldas coach Luis Fernando Montoya in a serious condition.
Two men and two women are suspected of shooting Montoya, 47, in the neck when he was trying to defend his wife from the robbery on his doorstep.
Witnesses said two women followed the coach's wife, Adriana Herrera, after she withdrew money from a bank and alerted the
men to catch her.
Doctors fear that Montoya, who led Once Caldas to the Copa Libertadores earlier this year, will be quadriplegic as a consequence of his injuries.
"I had withdrawn money to buy gift for the poor kids," Herrera said. "That was something my husband had asked me to do. When they came to rob me I gave them the money but they shot Luis Fernando anyway.
"We're torn to pieces but we have faith in God. Luis Fernando is a good person and God rewards good people. I ask everybody in Colombia to pray for him."
Montoya, who remains in intensive care, left Once Caldas after losing to Porto on penalties in the final Intercontinental Cup two weeks ago.
