dwmte says on May 25, 2006, 20:49: thanks to the cops who beat the lips off rodney... i lost a business--a profitable one--of twwnty years to the riots. a real drag. as a result of the riots, the L.A. police changed the motto on their cars from: 'to protect and to serve' to: 'we'll make you king for a day'.

Miguel_Clavo says on May 26, 2006, 07:25: sorry to hear that, DW, but a business in South Central?? Anyway, i have no sympathy for Sir Rodney nor the coppers involved....but, LA is enjoying the fruits of their hiring practices: lowered standards, hiring at-risk criminal types, hiring macho-men with the "US vs Them" mentality, (read the Christopher Commission report for an evaluations of the events), affirmative action, lack of supervisorial discipline and accountability, to name just a few. But Rodney was no candidate for priesthood, and if anyone deserved to get his ass kicked (but not beaten silly) for his stupid "Mr Toads Wild Ride" antics jeopardizing the safety of the public that way he did. Not that i am a proponent of police brutality, but a little physical therapy is a good thing, and a gentle reminder to be a good law abiding citizen, when needed. Having been raised in that lovely smogbowl of a city, i wouldnt want to work there as a cop either. Too many braindead smog impaired knuckleheads for my taste. And thats the citizens! But LAPD and LASO, between the 2 of them, have one of the highest numbers for Officers killed in the nation each year. I would rather work as a copper where the killed officer ratio is more to my liking. "I would rather die living life, than to live a dying life."........ Oh, and my PM is always ON. Miguel_Clavo says on May 26, 2006, 08:30: damn, dude! thats f$%#d up! i was one of the Mutual Aid officers sent there from Northern California since i knew the terrain....but our illustrous spine deficient leaders just kept tellng us "Standby to Standby" and in all reality, we did not do a F-ing thing to help the law abiding public..all at 24 hr per day overtime rate of time and a half with expenses covered!!..No one had the balls to initiate anything...kind of like the "deer caught in the headlight" approach of the shotcallers in the departments there..."to protect and serve" my ass, LAPD Officer "just the facts and nothing else, Maam".....more like, let just "watch Rome burn down" .... "I would rather die living life, than to live a dying life."........ Oh, and my PM is always ON. Great Bumper Sticker: "Home of the Free, Because of the Brave" |

dwmte says on May 26, 2006, 14:07: miguel... when bush, senior called in the national guard...thousands of them, it was three days before they got bullets! believe that...it's like the showing after katrina. when they finally got bullets, the shots rang out and about 20 people were shot that morning, many deaths. that was all it took to bring the meyhem to an end. that day, the burning and looting came to a screeching halt. the troops had orders to shoot to kill...period. however, for the previous 10-12 days it was absolute lawlessness. like i mentioned in the previous comment, above. doing business in L.A. was dreams ville for years until this crap went down. after that, things changed. we closed the store and moved back up to the san juaquin valley where i grew up and opened a country store. it was very successful, but drop one of the zeros in the monthly sales...down from 50 grand to 5 grand!

Miguel_Clavo says on May 26, 2006, 15:19: I remember that....what an embarrasment! Like bringing a knife to a gunfight!...Nothing clears a bar like a round going off!...But, hindsight is always preferable....its the brass that are brain dead....LAPD got caught with their pants down again.....sorry to hear about your misfortune....it could have been prevented.....
