Just wondering the different reasons why some love medellin? Love to hear from everyone so post a comment!
The reasons i love medellin, colombia are basically because both my parents are colombian and since small i've been visiting medellin. & now being 17 years old, I travel to medellin by myself find it easy to fit in & feel like if ive lived there all my life. Alot of transportation so it's easy for me to go around the city by myself & not having to worry about something happening to me because in the 16 years of me going nothing has ever happened. I actally stay in Santo Domingo Savio which use to be back in 1985 one of the most violent "barrios" in medellin and now its wonderful, have ridden the metro cable like a million times & i can tell the govenor of medellin is doing a wonderful job giving the poorer barrios great things such has the new library they are building in santo domingo savio which will add more tourism to the metro cable. Everyone in Medellin is nice & helpful. I visited bogota & i actally didnt enjoy myself because everything is so far but medellin .. well basically theres nothing like it ;]

PaisaAmericano says on Jan 31, 2007, 19:45: You go Mami! I am also from Antioqueño parents and all my life have traveled here for the summer vacations. I was lucky to go to school here as a 10 year old and learn all the manerisms, dialect, culture, soccer well everything. I am now 30 and have moved to this beautiful paradise, I have found that the opportunities for a ColomboAmericano are endless! If you know perfect Colombian Spanish and perfect English you are set here and will live a very prosperous life.

thur says on Feb 1, 2007, 01:43: Medellín... It's funny you said "everything is so far" (in Bogotá), because... it is. The city expansion is huge. It will take you about an hour to go anywhere (in TM). Everything in Medellín _is_ near and all paisas I talked to said "Medellín is a village" :-) - www.pbase.com/thur |

PaisaAmericano says on Feb 1, 2007, 07:45: Hey Cindster I dont know what career plans you have, but positions as an English Instructor are endless here and pays very well. You can private tutor, work at a University, The Columbus School, Colombo-Americano etc. I am currently in Real Estate and cater to the American or English Community or those who are planning on investing here. My background is in Travel, Hospitality and Tourism and that is huge here as well, especially now that Colombia is safer and all these gringos have found out what a great place this is and how beautiful it is. There are American Companies here that also hire Americans for their International divisions. So Cindster, if you do a little research youll find many opportunities.

panthdave says on Feb 2, 2007, 05:01: Correct Medellin is on the Right Track Medellin has nice and hard working people.. I have found very friendly people in the Village of Medellin as I call it. Might be overbuilding alittle in Poblado. Sorry to say this but like Medellin as it is now and don't want to become a huge city and become overcrowded with tourists. I can't stand that and thats why I have started to hate Miami which has changed in the last 15 years. panthdave Miami |

Mexican people are friendly enough, but once in a while you meet some people who hate Gringos. It seems to be that way with the women here. Some women don't care if you are gringo. Others are Puro Mexicano. Definatly, I find the Paisas to be very well educated and motivated to work. Oh please. Let me get back there soon. I miss the rum of Colombia. |
utopiacowboy says on Feb 10, 2007, 11:04: Good to see that you are enjoying Poblado "cocoon" but it is far from the real Medellin. For many gringos (most? all?), Medellin consists of nothing more than Parque Lleras hobnobbing with people who think they are in Miami. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. |
|
morphus says on Feb 10, 2007, 11:18: Sometimes the Poblado cocoon is nice. I was wandering around Barrio Boston one night and stumbled upon a crime scene. A taxi driver was shot and killed. I saw him slumped over the steering wheel. The taxi was crashed into a store and the polce had the area taped off. I thought to myself "ok, time to go back to Poblado" and took off. I hung out in Parque Poblado all night and watched the sun come up. I thought about the poor taxista that would'nt get to see another beautiful day in Medellin.

panthdave says on Feb 10, 2007, 12:02: I have been Boston,Buenes Aires,San Javiar Barrios Actually I am in San Janviar many times with a friend and kind of like it that doesn't mean you don't put down El Poblado.. I just like when I go home its a nice place to be doesn't mean I stay locked in El Poblado.. And yes we meet in Parque Llares with my colombian friends because its a nice place to be at night. panthdave Miami |
|
Man Tequila says on Feb 10, 2007, 12:10: I liked Parque Lleras and Poblado. I'm sure the cocoon is handy if in Medellin for longer periods. I'd probably do what morphus did if I saw a taxista muerta. And it's a great place to people watch and eat San Carbon steaks. My brief impressions -- It's a little expensive, a little over-rated, a little less friendly than other districts, and a pity if one goes to Medellin and does not venture downtown, ride the metro or visit other barrios. There's nothing wrong with El Poblado, but more to Medellin. utopiacowboy says on Feb 10, 2007, 13:16: Chipechape? Wrong city, dude. Personally I agree with you that most of the places you went were boring.
