Los Puentes en Medellin! (o Colombia)

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can find a list of puentes (3 day weekends) for Medellin. When they occur? and what they are for???

I hear this weekend is a puente over there.

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Thanks guys! Hey cool,

thanks for the link.
Another puente next week? damn. They seem to get a few don't they?

Actually on another tangent, seems that uni students there don't seem to have as much contact hours/days as say here in Australia.
Do they all get like 3 months holidays in the middle of the year, then another 3 near Christmas? Seems like that with some friends I know in Medellin.

Maybe teaching English at a Colombian U wouldn't be too bad.

Actually the honor goes to Sri Lanka... viva multiculturalism! Sri Lanka enjoys the most holidays in the world. All important Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Muslim festivals are holidays and celebrated. All important Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian and national festivals are celebrated- up to 72 in all, including Sundays. Sri Lankans have the right balance in life to work and play.

Every full moon -Poya day- is a Buddhist holiday. Public places of entertainment and most shops are closed. Some supermarkets remain open but will not sell red meat or alcohol. Hotels will often refuse to serve alcohol.

It may be for some people, Platano, but not for me. I have about 3 months of vacation time stored and I am in no hurry to take any of it. If you don't enjoy your work you need to find different work. I want to work until I die.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

UTC, Excellent! I am so glad to hear you have found enjoyment in your work. I have always thought I would retire at 62, but now that 62 is not that far away I am reconsidering, maybe 65, maybe 70, who knows, I could die tomorrow, or tonight. Maybe I'll soon be saying what you say and I'll never retire.

I hate puentes I have to pay double time to my employees.

For those starting a business, don´t think in terms of $381,500 a month in wages because add ons are pretty good: $44500 a month for transportation, and $73,438.75 total for salud (8%) & pension (11.25%).

Then the ever famous liquidacion....Your employee leaves or gets caught stealing or just stops showing up....you as employer pay. Without considering the effect of average overtime paid, an employee making minimum gets liquidated more or less the following: $426,000 cesantias (basically a months pay plus transportation) and interest at 1% a month for the cesantias or about $51,120 then vacation which is $190,750 or half a month of minimum wage without transportation and finally prima which is paid twice a year in June & December which is each time: half a month´s wage plus the half month of transporte. So a guy who worked the whole year, leaves in December, that makes minimum and assuming you already paid the June prima will get at least: $426,000+51120+190750+190750+22500=$881,120 when he says caio and ka-ching. Add on that the formulas use average pay so overtime counts big. Continuing employees get this too, legally you don´t have to pay the liquidation of an employee that continues to work for you until they actually leave but it adds up quick if you don´t pay out and you could owe millones y millones to each employee. Heck I paid like $42000 liquidation for a register girl who worked 12 days and quit.
