Looking for original Italian Gelato in Medellin

Hey all....I am searching for any places that sell Gelato in Medellin. I know there is one in the fancy mall near Poblado. I am speaking of what I call original Italian Gelato not normal ice cream.
I'm also aware of "Soft Touch" but that is a different product not Gelato.
This would be great help to me if you could direct me. I hope to back in Med. with a week or so.

That's a funny request. Why don't you try an arepa con queso instead? They make good arepa with cheese and lechera in Medellin.

Fish, if gelato is really high on your list for South American countries you might want to re think your list or rethink your destination.

No offense but Italy or New York City

Or enjoy Mimos Ice cream in Medellín - if one can call that ice cream.

"MACDONALDS HAS THE CLOSEST TO GELATO"

Well, some of you guys have a strange impression about Italian Gelato.
First of all, we don't have these strange machines that put gelato on cones. You can't even find Carpigiani in Italy, if you know what it means.
Italian gelato is not that soft.

What it's different, it is the taste. Gelato tastes a lot more and not artificial. Also, the consistence is more "buttery", fatter. Hell, we don't even have all those strange tastes, like chicless and we do not like strong colors.

If you want to eat something like an Italian gelato, in Medellin you can have Helado San Jeronimo http://www.heladossanjeronimocajica.com/index.htm

The word "closest" makes the statement valid. They are both cold and contain milk and sugar.

HEY,
Thanks all for the great info so far. I make great original Gelato now in USA, I just went halves on a very small helado place in Medellin. But I have not seen any original gelato there. Similiar to what you may see in New York, Gelato, SemiFreddos (esp. semifrios) and ice cream cakes and espresso and original cappucino in a nice new york style atmosphere. I was thinking naturally, Poblado, Laureles, Belen, etc places like that!

Thanks!

ROBI is right on with the definition! Gelato can be described as a little more "chewy" than ice cream and should have small chunks of the actual fruit inside. I learned from the best, both in New York and Carini, Sicily.

Thanks Robi

what would you consider Crepes & Waffles ice cream, is that fairly close to Italian for you?

And btw the best ice cream I had outside Italy was in Buenos Aires, there is one small chain (they used to have only 3 outlets I believe) that made fantastic mouth orgasms... anybody recall the name of the place? Then again, Argentinians are sort of Italianos...

Ahhhh, bite your frozen tongue! Thats like calling someone from Milan a Sicilian! jaja
Yes, South America and precisely Argentina does have a variation of Gelato. Many people also think that Gelato is made from water when in fact that is Sorbetto! Which holds delicioso in itself!
The cream that is on the Crepes and Waffles is also a spun whipped helado that is airy and custard.
Heavily ladened with Dulce de leche!

In Sicily I had the best ice cream of my life.
They mix it with Ricotta cheese.
Also, they use to have croissant with orange granita (crushed icy orange juice). The taste of that simple sweet is so strong. I swear that you cannot taste an orange like the sicilian one anywhere.
To not talk about "cannoli" and "cassata".

I had some good ice cream in Medellin before. Generally speaking, dairy in Colombia is horrid, but I have had some really nice ice cream before. Gelatto, not so much.

Robi,
The oranges are great in Sicily, how about the blood oranges? I love the Sicilian Lemons. The bastardos are so big and good you can peel and eat them like an giant orange, just put some sugar on them and instant sliced lemonade!! I ocassionally try and smuggle a couple thru when I come back from Sicily.
What part/city do you hail from?
